In particular, there are six hundred and twenty (620) mountains in the United States with summit (peak) elevations ranging from 6200 meters (20,350 feet) to 2759 meters (9800 feet).

Only Denali in the United States exceeds 6000 meters (19,685 feet) in elevation. Then there are four major summits that are higher than 5000 meters (16,404 feet), nine that are higher than 4500 meters (14,764 feet), 104 that are higher than 4000 meters (13,123 feet), 220 that are higher than 3500 meters (11,483 feet), and 302 that are higher than 3000 meters (9843 feet).

The following states have 200 of the highest major peaks (summits) among the 620 mountains in the United States. Eighty-eight (88) are located in Colorado, 49 in Alaska, 22 in California, 14 in Wyoming, eight in New Mexico, five in Utah, four in Nevada, three in Montana.
