What is Eid Mubarak

Eid Mubarak or Eid-Ul-Fitr is a holy festival celebrated after observing Rozas (fasting in Islam) for a period of close to 30 days.

The ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar is known as Ramzan, and during this time Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. Although Eid is celebrated over the course of three days, its name, Eid-ul-Fitr, refers specifically to the third day, when the fast is broken. The end of the holy month of Ramadan is celebrated with this festival.

The celebrations begin after the crescent moon is spotted, and continue into the next day if the moon is not seen. The streets are illuminated with pretty lights, and everybody seems to be wearing brand new threads. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, festivities are postponed for the time being.

When is Eid Mubarak

The actual date of the festival is determined by the moon's sighting, but it is expected to begin on May 23 (a Saturday) and end on May 24 (a Sunday) this year.

On the first day of the Islamic calendar month of Shawwal, Muslims celebrate Eid by breaking their fast. The date is determined by when the moon is visible, as was mentioned earlier. When it comes to calculating dates, Muslims use the lunar calendar, which is based on the moon's waxing and waning phases rather than the Gregorian one. If you can't be with your family this year to celebrate Eid together, we've compiled some well-wishes and messages you can send their way to make up for it.
