Full Schedules of 2022 NFL Offseason Workout for 32 Teams
NFL offseason workout schedules |
The 2022 NFL full schedule becoming a reality. The league has announced the full slate of offseason workout dates for all 32 teams, "to provide training, teaching, and physical conditioning for players."
The NFL has turned its offseason schedule into an art. From the Super Bowl through until the NFL kickoff game, they tease and entice fans with the next event being just around the corner.
2022 NFL Offseason Workout Schedules - Overview
The NFL announced that the Bears, Dolphins, Saints, and Giants will be doing exactly that.
Teams with new head coaches are also permitted to hold a three-day voluntary minicamp and all 32 teams are allowed to hold a mandatory three-day minicamp.
The other six teams that hired new head coaches, including the Buccaneers, will be starting their programs on April 11 while the rest of the league’s teams will have to wait until April 18 to get the ball rolling.
Most of those teams will start on the 18th or 19th, but the Eagles will wait another week and the Bengals aren’t scheduled to start their program until May 2.
This year, eight clubs will hold voluntary veteran minicamps, as noted below. New head coaches are entitled to conduct an additional voluntary veteran minicamp. Teams with a new head coach get a head start with an additional voluntary veteran minicamp which takes place prior to the NFL Draft, but no earlier than Week 3 of the offseason workout and after at least one week of the two weeks of Phase 1.
Each club may hold a rookie football development program for a period of seven weeks, which in 2022 may begin on May 16. During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, with the exception of one post-Draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft. The dates of each club's post-draft rookie minicamps will be circulated at a later date.
Three Phases
Each club's official, voluntary nine-week offseason program is conducted in three phases:
Phase 1 consists of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.
Phase 2 consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual or group instruction and drills, as well as "perfect play drills," and drills and plays with offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, conducted at a walk through pace. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.
Phase 3 consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity (OTAs). No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.
Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that clubs may hold one mandatory minicamp for veteran players. This minicamp, noted below, must occur during Phase Three of the offseason program.

NFL Draft
- April 28-30
The 2022 NFL Draft will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, two years after it was originally meant to be held there. With the No. 1 selection still very much up for debate, Thursday night in Vegas promises to be an exciting affair from the first pick to the last.
Rookie Minicamps
- May 6-9
- May 13-16
The two weekends immediately following the draft offer teams an opportunity to hold three-day rookie minicamps. Each franchise can select to host their rookies on one of the two weekends, but not both.
NFL schedule release
The NFL schedule release has not been confirmed for the 2022 season. Based on what we saw last season, the expectation is the second week after the draft. Therefore, Wednesday, May 11 is expected to be the date we find out the full schedule for 2022.
OTAs
NFL teams can hold organized team activities (OTAs) for a total of 10 days during May and June. Some teams hold this in two blocks, while others can spread it over as many as five or six different sessions.
Last year, OTAs began on May 24 or 25, depending on the team. Assuming a similar pattern holds true in 2022, it would be May 23 or 24 this season.
NFL Supplemental Draft and franchise tag extension deadline
The NFL has not held a supplemental draft for the past two offseasons. It is not yet known whether the draft will return this year, with COVID restrictions having largely been lifted by the league. The 2019 NFL Supplemental Draft took place in early July, and the 2022 version is expected to be around the same time.
A few days later, on July 15, the franchise tag extension deadline is set to pass. That will be the final opportunity for teams to sign long-term extensions to players they franchise tagged. If they have not agreed to an extension by that date, they will not be able to until the end of the 2022-23 season.
Training Camp and NFL Preseason
The action returns to the field in July. The date that teams can open training camp is tied to when they begin preseason. The first game of the 2022 NFL preseason will be the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, August 4. That game will see the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars face off in Canton, Ohio. The remaining 30 teams are expected to take to the field in the following week to 10 days.
In terms of training camp, veterans can report no earlier than 15 days prior to their team’s first preseason game. Meanwhile, rookies can report up to a week earlier than the veterans.
