Mohammadpur Umri is an incredibly small village in Uttar Pradesh, India. This village is also known as Kaushmbhi and it is near the Air Force base of Barauli in Uttar Pradesh.

The village is around 8 miles away from the famous Allahabad station, and people often hire commercial vehicles to reach there. A man named Mohammad Nasir Ali was the founder of this village and hence, the name ‘Mohammadpur’ was given after him. Mohammadpur Umri covers an area of 80000 km, and the population is around 900. Around 95% of the population is Muslim in the village. The most interesting fact about this village is that it comprises of a large number of a set of twins in the village. And it is also called the twin capital of the world.

Moreover, Mohammadpur Umri has a couple of twins in every 5th house. While some families in the village are untouched by this wonder. Even some families have multiple sets of twins in their families. Another weird fact about this village is that it does not only happen with the humans but with animals and the creatures of this village are twins. It happens with the animals like cows and buffaloes, and even hens lay eggs with twin yolks. Mohammadpur Umri is a land of wonders, but no one exactly knows the reasons behind it.

Mohammadpur Umri is one of the most unique places in the entire world, but it is still miles away from necessities. For years, the village didn't have electricity facilities and it was only a few years ago, it got access to electricity. There are no hospitals and medical shops inside the village. The young generation has some ambitions and dreams in their eyes but, they have to either leave the village or forget about their dreams.

Several twins had married and left the village, and many had also died at the time of birth. The villagers also complain about the researcher who constantly comes to their village for blood samples and other reasons to know more about the twins and disturb their personal lives again and again.

The range is wide – from 77 years to one-month-olds, this unique village is full of human clones. Mohammedpur Umri is a dusty and remote village situated behind the Indian Air Force (IAF) base at Bamrauli, some 80 km from the holy city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Reason for the Presence of Twins

Scientists, doctors, and villagers have differing opinions about why there are an unusually high number of twins concentrated in this area. The phenomenon started about 40 years ago at around the same time that an Air Force Base was set up near the village. Some believe the station’s experimentation machinery causes the twinning. Some researchers believe that the soil and water minerals of this place are affecting the twin birth. Some people in the village consider this wonder as God’s gift to the villagers. Several national and international researchers have visited this place to understand the reason behind this miracle. scientists claimed that this village can add a new theory to ‘Genetic Science’. A team of scientists from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, visited Umri village, but they could never obtain their research for some unidentified reasons.

Local residents believe that this phenomenon is more due to local lifestyle and environment than with genes. But this has not kept many genetic researchers to visit the village to find out the reason behind this occurrence. A team of researchers from Hyderabad believe that the minerals in the groundwater of this village insecticides and pesticides used in this area can be the reason behind the birth of so many identical twins in Mohammedpur Umri village of Uttar Pradesh. This phenomenon is not restricted to human being only. Residents of this village say that here are also many cows in this village that have given birth to twin calves. You can come across many such stories where people have been confused due to twins. Even wives of this village are finding it difficult to clearly identify their husband. many wives have asked their husbands to dress in a particular manner so that they can differentiate them from their twin brother. People say that in one such incident, a set of twin brothers even switched places inside prison.

Is there any other twin town in the world?

The humble community of Umri is regularly compared with Kodinhi in Kerala. Kodinhi shares the twin penchant with Umri with around 250 arrangements of twins among 2000 families. However, they are universes apart. While Umri is a town of poor and landless ranchers who experience money related difficulties; Kodinhi brags of well off families, most of them upheld by settlements from family members in the Gulf. The most unmistakable contrast however is in the clinical offices as Kodinhi has an ordinary specialist and even a twins relationship with a site which advances itself universally.
