Knockout round qualification permutations, who's in, out of the last 16
The group stage is over which means the equation for qualification is clear, let's dive into the groups and figure out what happened.
Group A
Qualified: Italy, Wales, Switzerland
Eliminated: Turkey
Italy cruised through the group stages with three wins, seven goals scored and none conceded while Wales were trailing in their wake on four points. Ultimately it was the fact that they were the only team not to lose 3-0 to the Italians that was enough to secure second spot for Rob Page's side with four points and a goal difference of plus one.
Switzerland, who drew with Wales in the opening round of games, finished third by virtue of their goal difference. However with the third-placed teams from Group B and C having only registered three points the Swiss are guaranteed a last 16 berth. They will face either Belgium or the winners of Group B.
Wales will play Denmark in Amsterdam and Italy will face Austria in London.
Group B
Qualified: Belgium, Denmark
Third place: Finland
Eliminated: Russia
Belgium romped to the top of their group and a knockout tie against one of the competition's third place teams and behind them Denmark's stunning 4-1 win over Russia was enough to elevate them from bottom spot coming into the final round of games to qualification for the last 16. In a tournament that had been so disrupted for them by the cardiac arrest suffered by playmaker Christian Eriksen, it is a remarkable achievement for Kasper Hjulmand's side.
Tournament debutants Finland are in the mix for a third place berth but with three points and a goal difference of minus two they are likely to fall short; a similar tally for Turkey at Euro 2016 was not enough to reach the last 16.
Group C
Qualified: Netherlands, Austria, Ukraine
Eliminated: North Macedonia
Second place in Group C came down to a straight fight between Ukraine and Austria in Bucharest, a first half goal by Christoph Baumgartner enough to earn Das Team a first place in the Euros knockout rounds in their history though they will be hard pressed to go further against an Italy side that have been one of the tournament's best.
The Netherlands cruised to top spot in Group C and will face a third-placed team from one of Group D, E or F in the round of 16. As for Ukraine, they had to nervously await results in the final three groups but thanks to Spain's destruction of Slovakia combined with Sweden beating Poland, they're through. With three points and a goal difference of minus one they finish ahead of Finland and Slovakia who both also had three points.
Group D
Qualified: Czech Republic, England, Croatia
Eliminated: Scotland
England captured first place in the group on Tuesday thanks to a 1-0 win over the Czech Republic. But Tuesday's results saw three teams from the group qualify. Croatia finished in second place with a 3-1 win over Scotland, and the third-place Czechs will also advance thanks to their four points and +1 goal differential. Croatia had the same point total and goal differential as the Czech Republic but finished ahead thanks to the goals scored tiebreaker.
Group E
Qualified: Sweden, Spain
Eliminated: Slovakia, Poland
Sweden won the group thanks to a fun 3-2 win over Poland where they blew a two goal lead but rescued all three points at the death to eliminate Poland despite a heroic two goal performance from Robert Lewandowski. Spain similarly eliminated Slovakia with a dominant 5-0 win.
Sweden's win means they face Ukraine in the round of 16, while Spain return of only two points from their first two matches means they finish runner-up and are tasked with the comparatively hard matchup of facing Croatia in the round of 16.
Group F
Qualified: France, Germany, Portugal
Eliminated: Hungary
It was a wild final day in the group but when the dust settled France finished first on five points thanks to their draw with Portugal. Germany finished second with four points, but needed a late equalizer against Hungary to do it, and Portugal finished third, losing the head to head tiebreaker with the Germans. At the end of the day the big three teams all moved through, but it was a tense and drama filled path to get there. And only France, who draw the Netherlands in the round of 16 see it get any easier as Portugal face Belgium and Germany draw England.

With 24 teams competing at the Euros, and 16 spots in the knockout stages on offer, the top two from Groups A-F will go through along with the four best third-placed nations.
France, England, Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland reach Euro 2020 last 16 due to results on Monday, so far, June 22.
With Finland and Ukraine finishing on three points in Group B and C respectively, four nations were guaranteed to advance ahead of their third matches of the tournament and Switzerland's spot in the next stage was also sealed.
Finland and Ukraine can only watch on and hope they can scrape through as one of the best four third-placed teams after they suffered defeats in their final group games, both finishing with three points.
A 2-0 defeat to Belgium resulted in Finland missing out on second place to Denmark, who knocked Russia out with a resounding 4-1 win in Copenhagen.
Ukraine were beaten 1-0 by Austria earlier in the day, missing out on a top-two spot to Franco Foda's side - who progressed from the group stage for the first time in a European Championship.
Switzerland will qualify along with Italy and Wales in Group A, having amassed four points.
The Czech Republic and England meet at Wembley on Tuesday knowing they will go through, as they both have four points to their name.
The same goes for Group F leaders and world champions France ahead of their final match against holders Portugal on Wednesday.
Group E leaders Sweden will start their encounter with Poland on Wednesday knowing even a defeat would see them through, as they lead the way with four points.

Italy are through top of the group after a flawless display in the group stages. Three wins and no goals conceded mark Italy out as the tournament's dark horses. Wales scrap through to the next round despite a 1-0 defeat to Italy in their final group match, while Switzerland could still make the cut considering how the other groups third-place sides do.
Italy will take on Ukraine or Austria in the last 16 while Wales will have to wait to find out their opponents with Denmark, Finland and Russia all in the mix.

How Russia (3 pts) can advance:
- Win vs. Denmark: Russia will advance, at worst as the 3rd place team (depending on tiebreakers if Finland beat Belgium).

How Spain (2 pts) can advance:
- Win vs. Slovakia: Spain can finish in 1st place in case of a Sweden loss. Goal differential would come into play in case of a Sweden tie. Spain would finish 2nd if Sweden wins.
- Draw vs. Slovakia: Spain would be eliminated if Poland also wins. If Poland draws or loses, Spain can still hope that three points would be enough to see it through as one of the best 3rd-place teams.
- Loss vs. Slovakia: Spain would need a miracle to qualify: a Poland loss, a Switzerland-Turkey draw, a Croatia-Scotland draw, while also hoping that their goal differential is not worse than Croatia's and Switzerland's in that instance.
How Poland (1 pt) can advance:
- Win vs. Sweden: Poland can potentially finish top of the group via a three-way tiebreaker in case of a Slovakia-Spain draw. A Slovakia or Spain win would see them finish in 2nd place.
- Draw vs. Sweden: Poland would need a miracle set of results to go their way similar to the Spain scenario above. That would include a Spain loss to Slovakia that allows Poland to finish in third place in the group on goal differential.
- Loss vs. Sweden: Officially eliminated from contention.
