Check it out below!
When is Black Adam released in cinemas?
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is joining the DC Entertainment Universe—as a badass supervillain. Johnson is set to play Black Adam in his own solo film, Black Adam, and now that movie has an official release date: December 22, 2021. Johnson announced the news about playing the antihero on Instagram, announcing an official release and adding some more info about how excited he is to play the character.
Johnson wrote: “The Man in Black ⚡️Like most kids growing up, I dreamed about being a superhero. Having cool superpowers, fighting for what’s right and always protecting the people. It all changed for me, when I was 10yrs old and was first introduced to the greatest superhero of all time – SUPERMAN. As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be.
But, a few years into my fantasy, I realized that Superman was the hero, I could never be. I was too rebellious. Too rambunctious. Too resistant to convention and authority. Despite my troubles, I was still a good kid with a good heart – I just liked to do things my way. Now, years later as a man, with the same DNA I had as a kid – my superhero dreams have come true. I’m honored to join the iconic #DCUniverse and it’s a true pleasure to become, BLACK ADAM. BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the powers equal to SUPERMAN, but the difference is he doesn’t toe the mark or walk the line.
He’s a rebellious, one of a kind superhero, who’ll always do what’s right for the people – but he does it his way. Truth and justice – the BLACK ADAM way. This role is unlike any other I’ve ever played in my career and I’m grateful to the bone we’ll all go on this journey together. BLACK ADAM 12.22.21 ⚡️” according to Mensjournal.
Black Adam casts
Aside from Dwayne Johnson in the lead role, things were quiet on the casting front for some time but now with filming gearing up to start we are getting more information on who will be joining him. The former WWE star has been circling the characters of Black Adam and Shazam for many years, ultimately settling on the former due to his unpredictably rebellious nature.
Noah Centineo has also been confirmed as Atom Smasher, a DC Comics superhero capable of manipulating his size and strength, growing up to 60 feet tall at will.
Variety confirmed Aldis Hodge (The Invisible Man) will star as Hawkman in the upcoming blockbuster. Hawkman appeared in the DC universe in 1940, but until now, hasn’t ever appeared in any films – until Black Adam. The character has appeared on screen in recent years though in the debut season of Legends of Tomorrow where he was joined by Hawkgirl.
He usually appears with large (artificial) wings which allows him to soar. He is often depicted as a human archeologist, Carter Hall – or alien counterpart, Katar Hol.
The Hollywood Reporter later added that Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets) has also been cast in the movie, taking on the role of wind manipulating superhero Cyclone. The latest person to join the movie is Aladdin and The Old Guard star Marwan Kenzari as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Expect more casting announcements soon, particularly as we know more JSA members will be debuting in the film, with The Rock promising in a recent tweet that magical hero Doctor Fate is “coming soon”.
There has been much speculation over which existing DC heroes could appear in Black Adam, with Shazam and Superman among the most heavily rumored, Radio Times reported.
Pierce Brosnan to Play DC Hero Dr. Fate Opposite Dwayne Johnson

In the first superhero foray of his career, Pierce Brosnan has nabbed the plum role of classic hero Dr. Fate opposite Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam, New Line's action-adventure project featuring the DC Comics antihero.
Brosnan, known for being one of only a handful of actors to inhabit the James Bond mantle, is the last key member of the roll call for the production that will feature the big-screen debut of the Justice Society, DC’s precursor to the Justice League that takes a familial and multigenerational approach to heroics. Already suited up are Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.
Brosnan will play Kent Nelson, aka the good Dr. Fate, a son of an archaeologist who was taught sorcery skills and given the magical Helmet of Fate. The character, created by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman, is one of DC’s oldest characters, having first appeared in 1940’s More Fun Comics #5.
Jaume Collet-Serra, who also directed Johnson opposite Emily Blunt in Disney’s upcoming Jungle Cruise, is directing Black Adam. Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions are producing with Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo. The project reunites the team behind Jungle Cruise, which is currently set to open July 30.
FlynnPictureCo’s Scott Sheldon is serving as executive producer. Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani wrote the latest draft, with Adam Sztykiel writing the previous draft.
Brosnan is the veteran actor with dozens of credits, although he may be best known globally for his suave and sophisticated take on James Bond in the 007 movies in the 1990s and early 2000s which grossed almost $1.5 billion.
He also starred in the hit remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, the first studio project under his Irish DreamTime production banner, as well as the blockbuster Mamma Mia! films, and the critically acclaimed thrillers The Matador and The Ghost Writer.
The actor and environmentalist-philanthropist was most recently seen in Netflix’s comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga alongside Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, and next appears in the musical adaptation of the classic fairy tale Cinderella releasing this July, Hollywood reporter wrote.
Brosnan is repped by CAA, Curtis Brown, and Hansen, Jacobson.
What is Black Adam about?
Black Adam is the long-awaited solo movie for one of DC’s most popular antiheroes.
His origin, as told in Jerry Ordway’s 1994 story The Power of Shazam!, reveals Black Adam was born thousands of years ago in the fictional Middle Eastern country of Kahndaq.
Born “Teth-Adam”, son of the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II, he was rewarded with incredible powers bestowed on him by the high priest and wizard, Shazam.
However, when Black Adam is corrupted by the demon Blaze, who brings out a power-hungry side to his personality, Shazam punishes him by stripping him of his powers and sealing them in a scarab.
The character was later resurrected in the present day, initially to serve as a fearsome arch-enemy to Billy Batson (played by Zachary Levi in 2019’s Shazam!), but gradually taking on more antihero qualities as he develops.
Expect the Black Adam movie to explore this origin story, but that’s not all; in a major addition to the DC Extended Universe, the upcoming blockbuster will also introduce the Justice Society of America.
The superhero team actually predates the Justice League but isn’t quite as well known due to their location in a parallel universe known simply as Earth-2.
Speaking to Collider, producer Hiram Garcia said: “We are so excited to introduce the Justice Society, especially Hawkman who’s such a beloved character and one of those heroes who’s always meant so much to the DC universe.
“When you take a powerhouse like Black Adam and inject him into this DC cinematic universe you want to make sure you are putting characters around him that can really up the stakes.
“As DJ likes to say, the hierarchy of power in the DC universe really is going to change, so Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone will have their hands full no matter how we choose to have them interact with Black Adam.”
Black Adam is a Better Version of Marvel's Professor X in DC’s Far Future
Photo: marvel |
In DC Comics’ far future, Black Adam becomes a better version of Marvel’s Professor X. While Future State shows the incoming future of the DC Universe, it hasn’t gone quite this far ahead until now.
Following a story featuring the Suicide Squad, the second half of Future State: Suicide Squad #1 explores the fate of Black Adam, iconically known as the immortal enemy of Shazam. The issue is written by Robbie Thompson and Jeremy Adams with art by Fernando Pasarin, Javier Fernandez, and Oclair Albert. As the 853rd Century’s Justice League encounters the country called Kahndaq, Superman mentions that no one has been allowed admission there for several years. However, he’s had a growing relationship with Black Adam which might allow them access, despite the intense security.
It is soon revealed that Black Adam has turned his birth country of Kahndaq into an entire utopia, with the sole purpose of housing outcasts who live on the fringes of society. He is no longer a warmongering tyrant and has turned into the kind of hospitable leader that Professor X of the X-Men could only dream of becoming. Black Adam is even so thoughtful as to cultivate a garden in commemoration of those who have been lost. The unlikely former villain outdoes Xavier as a benefactor, with an abundance of resources at his disposal. In a sense, this is also the kind of technologically advanced utopia that Magneto would have also found inspiring for mutants. Instead of being confined to a school campus, Black Adam has an entire planet’s worth of space within pocket dimensional rooms. He doesn't even call himself a king, choosing to take the humbler title of ambassador.
Black Adam Movie Producer Confirms Filming Start In AprilBlack Adam producer, Hiram Garcia, has confirmed that the upcoming superhero movie will begin filming in April 2021. Attached to the play the character for over a decade, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's cinematic outing as the ancient Egyptian antihero Black Adam has been long anticipated. Johnson was originally tipped to portray the character as a villain in David F. Sandberg's 2019 Shazam! movie, as well as in an earlier version of The Suicide Squad. But given the former WWE star's stellar stature, DC Films spun the character off into a solo film set 5000 years after the imprisonment of the titular Kahndaq warrior, Screenrant cited. |
