There are just two points between the two sides, with the Blues on seven points from their opening four games and their South Coast visitors just a point behind.
Frank Lampard’s side won their last match before the international break, cruising past Crystal Palace 4-0.
Hakim Ziyech could at last make his Chelsea debut after being injured in a pre-season friendly, while Edouard Mendy could continue in goal following his signing in late September.
Timo Werner is also searching for his first Premier League goal.
Southampton’s last result before the two-week break was a 2-0 win over West Brom.
Chelsea vs Southampton is scheduled for a 3pm BST kick-off on Saturday, October 17.
The match will be behind closed doors at Stamford Bridge with no fans due to be present due to government guidelines regarding coronavirus.

Every Champions League 21/22 game will be streamed live online somewhere in the world. The trick is in finding out where.
In the U.K., for example, all 125 games in the Champions League 21/22 group stages and knockout rounds will be streamed live on BT Sport.
That's good news wherever you are, because a VPN — or virtual private network — will let you tune into U.K. coverage from anywhere on the planet. And the same goes for every other country. So, if you're a Brit on vacation in the U.S., you'll be able to use one of the best VPN services to watch the games live on your usual services.
Our favorite right now is ExpressVPN, thanks to its combination of superb speed, great customer service and excellent device support. It also offers a no-questions-asked 30-day money-back guarantee, so you could check it out without having to sign up long term.
Using a VPN with 3 easy steps:
1. Install the VPN of your choice. ExpressVPN is the one we recommend.
2. Open up the VPN app and choose the location of the service you wish to access. For the England vs India, you may wish to choose 'Canada' for DAZN Canada or 'USA' for Paramount +.
3. Then head over to Paramount+ or DAZN on your browser or device and enjoy the Manchester United vs Villarreal live stream.

The game will be shown live on BT Sport 2 from 7pm.
There are multiple ways to get BT Sport. If you already have BT Broadband, you can add BT TV and Sport to your existing contract from just £15 per month. You can add the ‘Big Sport’ package for £40 per month, which includes all BT Sport and 11 Sky Sports channels via a NOW pass.
To watch the UEFA Champions League 21/22 campaign in the U.K. you'll need BT Sport because it has the rights to all 125 games in the group and knockout stages.
Prices differ hugely depending on whether you already have BT TV and a BT broadband subscription. If you have both, you can add the Sports package for £15/month plus a £20 upfront fee, or go for the £40/month Big Sports package which also includes all of the Sky Sports channels, giving you a total of 160 live streams.
Another option for non-BT subscribers is the BT Sport Monthly Pass (£25), which lets you watch via an app for a fixed time, with no need for a lengthy commitment.
All sounds great, right? But if you're not in the U.K., you can still follow the games by using one of the best VPN services, such as ExpressVPN.
Amazon Prime Video
Amazon usually has around 20 matches per season under the current rights agreement, and in 2019/20, it secured all of the showpiece Boxing Day fixtures.
No Amazon games have been confirmed yet, but watch this space because over the past couple of seasons, the vast majority of its fixtures have aired in that crucial December/January period, which makes the end of the year perfect time to try out the service or re-subscribe if you've been away for a bit.
Other cool football-related pieces of programming in Amazon's library include All or Nothing: Manchester City, going behind the scenes of their successful 2017/18 season, and Six Dreams, a fly-on-the-wall look at La Liga in Spain. A new series of All or Nothing has been commissioned for 2021/22, following Arsenal.
Amazon also broadcasts sports including the US Open tennis championships, other ATP World Tour tennis events and NFL games, and has an increasingly broad library of sports documentaries, from Andy Murray: Resurfacing to Fernando, the series about double Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso. And you can watch tournaments like the Australian Open via the Eurosport Player add-on.
Amazon Prime (including the Premier League football) is priced at £7.99 per month, although if you've not subscribed before, you can access its services on a 30-day trial period.
If you prefer, you can build your own package starting with the Sky TV and Netflix combo (£25/month for 18 months at time of writing) and add on the channels that you'd like. For example, if you just wanted to add Sky Sports, then that's currently £20 per month on an 18-month minimum term, and you can add all the BT Sport channels for an extra £27 per month on a 31-day rolling contract.
New customers are usually offered an introductory price – the monthly cost may well go up at the end of the 18-month minimum contract term. If you don't already have Sky, it's also a requirement that you take the base TV package. Sky also notes in its terms and conditions that "prices may go up during your subscription", so be prepared just in case.
Sky has a whopping 11 (Eleven, to go all vidiprinter style for a moment) sports channels. Its offering covers all sorts, from the FA Women's Super League to cricket, motor racing (including Formula 1 and IndyCar), boxing, NBA, golf, rugby league, women's rugby and netball. It also has a rolling news channel, Sky Sports News.
Further football coverage, including EFL games and Scottish football fixtures as well as the German Bundesliga, is usually found on Sky Sports Football.
The primary advantage of NOW membership is that you don't need to have a base Sky package to add your sports subscription onto.
Finally, Virgin Media customers can also take advantage of TV and broadband package options which include Sky Sports.

BT Sport had the rights to just over 50 Premier League fixtures during the 2020/21 campaign, and will also carry coverage of the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and UEFA Super Cup until 2024.
Coming up in September and October, you can expect Chelsea v Manchester City (September 25, 12.30), Manchester United v Everton (October 2, 12.30), and Leicester City v Arsenal (October 30, 12.30).
It isn't an exact science, but BT Sport does tend to get a decent number of the Saturday lunchtime fixtures when the games are all divided up. You can also expect to see some 7.45pm kick-offs on Saturdays this season, where teams have played in UEFA's European competitions midweek.
Remember that BT Sport also features coverage from the top flight of French football, Ligue 1, and Italy's top league Serie A. It also holds rights for sports including Moto GP, Premiership Rugby, UFC and WWE as well. And it will also have coverage of the new UEFA Europa Conference League, which will feature Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Here are some of your options:
* BT Sport Monthly Pass (£25 per month, contract free and no need to be a BT Broadband customer)
* Big Sport – BT's Sport package plus Eurosport 1 and 2, AMC from BT, Sky Sports News, and Sky Sports access via NOW membership (£40/month, 24-month contract and £29.99 upfront)
* BT Sport on Sky (Add on to existing Sky package for £29.99/month. Upfront cost is £20 for 12-month contract, and £35 for 1-month rolling contract)
The BT Sport Pack has four main channels – BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport 3 and BT Sport ESPN. BT Sport has also made a number of feature-length documentaries exclusively available to subscribers.
If you also want BT Broadband, there are a number of further options, all of which you can see and sign up for here. There are options to save on its Sport or Big Sport offerings (as mentioned above, the latter also bundles NOW's Sky Sports membership).
BT now offers more flexibility with a number of its TV packages, which means you can add certain channel packs (including Netflix, NOW and Amazon Prime) and turn them on and off on a month-by-month basis to fit with your budget. Customers on older packages can also switch to the new arrangement without having to wait for their current contract to end.
Soccer fans in the U.S. can watch every single game of the 2021-2022 Champions League campaign on Paramount Plus. That costs $4.99/month for the basic package or $9.99 without ads, but there's currently a 7-day FREE trial of the service, so it's well worth checking out if you haven't used it before.
Some games will also be shown on CBS, and Spanish-language coverage is available on TUDN or UniMás with your cable package.
If you've cut the cord and don't have cable, Fubo.TV is another option. The Starter Plan costs $65 per month but gives you more than 117 channels, including CBS local channels, TUDN and UniMás, plus lots more for sports fans to enjoy.
If you already use those services but aren't in the U.S. right now, you can watch the Champions League 21/22 live streams by using a VPN such as ExpressVPN.
Paramount Plus combines what used to be CBS All Access with even more content from the deep ViacomCBS vault. For $9.99 per month, get access to Survivor and Big Brother episodes, as well as originals like Star Trek: Picard and The Good Fight. And more great stuff is on the way, including Frasier and Criminal Minds revivals.
Football fans in Austria, Canada and Germany get the chance to watch the UEFA Europa League final for free. DAZN has the rights to show the Europa and Champions Leagues and a whole host of sports in these territories, and, best of all, DAZN offers a free trial. So long as you've not used yours already, then you can fill your boots.
DAZN Canada has the rights to every Champions League 2021/22 live stream, plus Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, Premier League, US Sports, Fightsports, and more. Try it free for 30 days. It's $20 (CAD) a month thereafter. Cancel anytime.
Likewise, the DAZN free trial is only available within Canada so be sure to use a VPN if you're stuck abroad. We recommend ExpressVPN as it's reliable and comes with a risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee.
Those lucky Aussies can watch every Champions League 21/22 live stream on Stan Sport.
Stan can be accessed via a wide variety of devices including many smart TVs, iOS and Android phones, Chromecast, Apple TV and more — plus it costs a very reasonable $20 AUD per month ($10 for a standard subscription and $10 for the Sport add-on). A 7-day FREE trial gives you a taste of the platform — and the good news is that the free trial also includes the Sport add-on.
As well as Champions League 21/22 live streams, Stan also has Europa League coverage plus tennis action from Wimbledon and Roland-Garros and a huge amount of live Rugby.
Not in Australia right now? You can simply use a VPN to watch all the action on your Stan account, as if you were back home.
Once again, New Zealanders get access to all Champions League live streams this season via a single service — in this case, Spark Sport. It costs $24.99 NZD per month, but there's currently a 7-day FREE trial so you can check it out for the start of the season and see how you like it.
Spark is available via web browsers plus loads of streaming devices including Chromecast and Apple TV, so there's no shortage of ways to watch it. And as well as the EPL action you also get cricket, NBA basketball, F1 racing and more.
Not at home in New Zealand right now? You can still follow every game by using one of the best VPN services, such as ExpressVPN.
Chelsea started off the season on a high, thanks to the inclusion of Romelu Lukaku in their squad, and at one point looked undefeatable. However, their loss against Manchester City in their last match changed the dynamics somewhat. It might have hindered their confidence and momentum which was the very reason why they lost against Juventus. Thomas Tuchel’s ultra defensive approach to the matches could also have been the reason of their drop in form. However, it is improbable to think that Thomas Tuchel will use the same approach against Southampton as well.
Southampton FC, on the other hand, are yet to win a match this season. They suffered defeat in their last match and drew four matches before that. So it is obviously that they will struggle against Chelsea as well.

Coming first to the home team, the squad of Chelsea Football Club is star-studded with high-profile players from each part of the world. Each player can change the flow of the match with their skills. After the end of matchday 5, Chelsea is at the top of the table with 13 points in five matches. They are not dependent on a single player. In their last match, Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante, and Rudiger scored, and none of them are strikers. They are playing like true champions. Jorginho, Lukaku, Kai Havertz, and Mason Mount are all excellent players.
Now coming to the away team, Southampton Football Club has not fulfilled their fans’ expectations. They are yet to register a win to their name. Currently, they are residing at the lower half of the Premier League Table. We have all seen in the past and every Premier League, that any team can defeat any team in the Premier League, so Southampton may surprise their fans with a shocking win. Jan Bednarek will be in charge of the defense, and James War-Prowse will be in charge of the attacks. Other than that, the Southampton squad has several young talents who are faster than most of the Premier League players.
Predicted Line-Up: Chelsea – Mendy, Christensen, Thiago Silva, Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic, Mason Mount, Marcos Alonso, Romelu Lukaku
Southampton – Alex McCarthy, Tino Livramento, Jack Stephens, Jan Bednarek, Kyle Walker-Peters, Oriol Romeu, James Ward-Prowse, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Che Adams, Nathan Redmond, Adam Armstrong.
Chelsea will be hosting Southampton on Saturday. This season of 6 matches, Chelsea have won 4 matches while they lost 1 and settled for a draw in one match. Southampton on the other hand, are yet to win a match this season. They have 4 draws and 2 defeats this season.
Considering the current form of both the teams as well as taking into account the home advantage, Chelsea is predicted to win against Southampton. The latest Chelsea vs Southampton Prediction and Odds also favors Chelsea over Southampton in Saturday night’s match.

Chelsea did have some positives from their loss to Manchester City. Ruben Loftus-Cheek was introduced in the 76th minute and the midfielder was quick to react with some very promising display. He tried to have a composed presence on the pitch and made some good darting runs which didn’t yield anything. After spending some nightmare days with his injury setbacks the English international has definitely caught the eyes of Thomas Tuchel who has a difficult task to make.
The likes of Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz are yet to make an impact and Tuchel might have some plans to get the best out of him. They need to win against the Saints in a bid to keep up the pressure on Liverpool and Manchester City.
Southampton’s lack of goal-scoring threat from set piece movements needs to be addressed. They are still coming to terms following the departure of Danny Ings and Jannik Vestergaard who were their bedrock of success as they avoided relegation last season.
Against Wolves, they were the better teams for most of the match. They dictated possessions, registered shots on goal, looked more threatening but their lack of finishing in front of the goal defined the outcome.
Southampton’s decision to bring in Adam Armstrong from Blackburn Rovers received a mixed reaction but the striker is yet to adapt to the pace and trickery of the Premier League. it remains to be seen how much time he needs to get the ball rolling at the St Mary’s Stadium this time.
