2021 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Opponents

The Buccaneers concluded their 2020 regular season on Sunday with a 44-27 win over Atlanta that locked in the fifth seed in the NFC playoff field and will send them on the road in the opening round against the NFC East champion, Washington.

Tampa Bay will also play all four AFC East teams and have their usual home-and-away series with the three other teams in the NFC South. The final two games on the 16-game schedule will pit the Bucs against the teams that matched their division standing in the NFC North and West division. The Buccaneers finished second in the South which means they'll get a home game against the Chicago Bears, who finished second in the North, and an away game against the Los Angeles Rams, who finished second in the West, according to Buccaneers.com.

Los Angeles was the last of the Bucs' 2021 opponents to be determined, as the Rams didn't clinch second place in the West – and the final playoff spot in the NFC – until they defeated the Arizona Cardinals during the late-afternoon time slot on Sunday. Below are the opponents for the 16 games currently scheduled for 2021. If the NFL adds a 17th game next year, as has been reported, the Bucs' extra game will be against an AFC opponent not in the AFC East. The NFL will release the actual dates and times of the games in the spring.

The Bucs' only destination west of the Mississippi next year will be Los Angeles. The scheduling formula the NFL has used since it expanded to 32 teams in 2002 is a rotation of divisional matchups, with the Bucs and the NFC South rotating through the other NFC divisions every three years and through the four AFC divisions every four years. Thus, is the first time Tampa Bay has matched up with the East divisions in both conferences and set up a largely Eastern Time Zone schedule since 2009.

Tom Brady, who signed a two-year contract with the Buccaneers in March, will get a chance to go up against his former team in their home. Brady played 20 seasons for the Patriots and won six Super Bowl championships before joining the Buccaneers.

Brady, Bucs, end playoffs for Saints, Brees, 30-20

Tom Brady's best game in three tries against New Orleans kept the Buccaneers moving on in the NFL playoffs, and has Saints quarterback Drew Brees headed home — perhaps for good, ESPN reported.

Brady and the Bucs' offense turned three of four Saints turnovers into touchdowns and Tampa Bay beat New Orleans 30-20 in the divisional round of the playoffs Sunday night.

Two of those touchdowns came on short passes to Mike Evans and Leonard Fournette. And after linebacker Devin White snagged the second of thee interceptions thrown by Brees, Brady drove the Bucs to the 1, from where he scored himself with 4:57 left to virtually ensuring his 14th trip to a conference championship game — his first in the NFC.

That game will take place in Green Bay next week, where the 43-year-old Brady will try to advance to his 10th Super Bowl in a showdown with Packers All-Pro QB Aaron Rodgers.

Brees, under contract for one more year, declined to say whether he's retiring. After he'd changed in the locker room, he walked back onto the field and watched his four children play, at one point sharing a long embrace with his wife, Brittany.

Brady finished 18 of 33 for 199 yards in what often resembled more of a defensive struggle. Unlike his previous two meetings with the Saints — both losses — he was not intercepted and largely avoided pressure, taking only one sack.

After Brees' third interception on a tipped pass late in the fourth quarter, the Bucs were able to close out the game with Brady, in his first season with Tampa Bay (13-5) after 20 with New England, taking a knee.

“Obviously they beat us twice in the regular season,” Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith said. "We came around in Round 3 with the knockout.

“We've been building. You got to get hot at the right time.”
