Biden's transition team lawyers have reminded Vice President-elect Kamala Harris' niece, Meena, that she can't profit off her famous aunt's image, after she unveiled a collaboration between her company and Beats By Dre.

| The founder and CEO of Phenomenal In the wake of the 2016 election, after working as a senior adviser on policy and communications for her aunt's U.S. Senate race, Meena started what was then considered a small side project: Inspired by the famous Maya Angelou poem, she printed tees that said "Phenomenal Woman."
She thought she'd sell a couple hundred and donate the profits to organizations like Planned Parenthood and Girls Who Code. But on the first day, she sold 2,500. "Like a lot of people, in that moment I found myself wondering what I personally could do to lift up women, make my voice heard, and support issues I cared about," Meena told People in an interview this summer. "It was never supposed to be anything more than a side project...but it's really gratifying to pour your heart and soul into something, work your ass off, and see it in the world embraced by the communities it's intended for." In the four years since, her T-shirt business has grown into the Phenomenal Woman Action Campaign, which not only sells tees, but also sweatshirts, hats, leggings, socks, and bodysuits—all of which raise awareness around issues that affect underrepresented communities with celebratory sayings like "Phenomenally Latina," "Phenomenally Indigenous,""Phenomenally Human," "Phenomenal Mother," and "Black Lives Matter" to name a few. |

Now her these activities have become a source of concern for the Vice President’s aides. One White House official, who didn’t want to be named, said, “Some things can’t be undone. That being said: Behavior needs to change.”
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris had campaigned against Donald Trump citing his and his family members’ businesses, and now it is felt that they the current government will face the similar criticism. President is already under cloud for the dealings of his son, and the new team certainly don’t want more questions thrown at them.
Although Meena Harris is not accused of any legal crime, the issue is more about optics. Meena Harris told The Los Angeles Times, in a statement released by a PR firm: 'Since the beginning of the campaign, I have insisted on upholding all legal and ethical standards and will continue to strictly adhere to the ethics rules of the Biden/Harris White House. With regards to Phenomenal, it was always our plan to remove the likeness of the Vice President from the website before the Inauguration, and refrain from using her likeness in any products or campaigns going forward.'
After Biden and Harris won the election, Meena was told she could no longer produce clothing or write new books with her aunt's name or likeness.
The Vice President’s office has also issued a statement on the issue: “The Vice President and her family will uphold the highest ethical standards and it’s the White House’s policy that the Vice President’s name should not be used in connection with any commercial activities that could reasonably be understood to imply an endorsement or support.”
