Using information from its fifth annual Traveler Review Awards, which honor outstanding hospitality, Booking.com just published its 2022 list of the Most Welcoming Places in the United States and the Most Welcoming Places on Earth. This year, Matera, Italy took the top spot on the global list, while Newport, Rhode Island was named the nicest and most hospitable city in the United States.

These awards, which honor everything from outstanding staffing to cleanliness and safety—notable accomplishments during a difficult time period—are based on evaluations left by passengers on Booking.com as well as the number of rewarded lodgings in each location.

Additionally, according to research by Booking.com, travelers place high importance on having amazing travel experiences. More than half of American travelers (61%) feel inspired to keep crossing items off their travel-related bucket lists. And after spending so much time indoors, beach homes (31%), all-inclusive resorts (20%), and log cabins in the woods (19%) are the most popular lodging options for tourists, thanks in large part to the devoted, kind, and inviting hosts.
