Here at National Today, we are all about empowerment, in whatever form it takes that’s especially true on November 1 for National Men Make Dinner Day! So if you identify as a man then throw on an apron, sharpen those knife skills, and create incredible evening meals for yourself, your friends, or your family! Despite gender roles becoming less rigid in America, there are still many men who are not taught to cook and don’t take the initiative or confidence to enter to the kitchen and create a meal for themselves or a loved one. This day is all about giving men the strength to get in there and whip up something nice, Nationaltoday noted.

What is National Men Make Dinner Day?

National Men Make Dinner Day is celebrated on the first Thursday of November. The day was created specifically for the many men who are not familiar with the workings of the kitchen. There are men out there who do not know their way around the kitchen. If you are married to one of those men, it is time to give him a quick lesson. As a busy mom, you deserve a break. Beware, though, you may need to keep your sense of humor by the end of the evening! The results might end up being painful, but you can always hope.

History and Origin of National Men Make Dinner Day

This special holiday was created in 1998 by Sandy Sharkey from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

According to Sharkey, she created "National Men Make Dinner Day" just for fun. She said "It was started as a joke. My girlfriend's husbands were always cooking for them.... and my husband didn't know how to cook , nor did he have the desire. But since he's wonderful in every other way, and very enthusiastic about challenges, I created the day, wrote some rules, and presented him with a print-out of this very special day and asked if he would consider participating. He did."

There are no Presidential or Congressional proclamations making this an official "National" day, according to Holidayinsights.

Why You Should Celebrate The Day

Men have been cooking for years, and many of them are great at it. It is not lost on anyone that most of the world's top professional chefs happen to be men. Men who love to cook may not be too many, but those who do are excellent at it. Cooking, especially in the home setting, is still the woman’s domain for many families.

Gender roles may have become less rigid over the years, but the truth is that many men still prefer to stay away from the cooking stove. This is one day when men can feel empowered in the kitchen, and most men actually end up enjoying it. During Men Make Dinner Day, women can get a break from cooking dinner thanks to their loving men, Moms explained.
