Top 30 Most Expensive ZIP Codes In The US

What is a zip code?

A ZIP Code is a five-digit numeric code that identifies a group of postal addresses in the United States and its territories, making mail distribution easier for the United States Postal Service (USPS).

A ZIP Code is a delivery sort sequence, and the USPS does not assign an area to each ZIP Code. ZIP Codes are lists of addresses used to deliver mail. They aren't areas. However, many ZIP Codes have delivery zones, while others are for buildings or campuses with specified boundaries. Boundaries can also be formed by grouping small areas (defined by the U.S. Bureau of the Census for their nationwide street map) based on the dominant ZIP Code of the addresses in each small area, but this is an approximation because carrier routes may overlap and portions of the country lack deliverable addresses. ZIP Code areas frequently do not follow the boundaries of cities, towns, counties, or states.

A ZIP code can do more than just direct your mail to the correct location. Depending on where you reside, a string of five numbers can convey wealth and rank. According to average property values, these are the most desirable ZIP codes in the country.

To determine the most expensive ZIP codes in the United States, Property Shark examined the median prices of house sales completed between January 1 and October 20, 2023. It should come as no surprise to homeowners in California and New York that the two coastal states top the list. Atherton, in San Mateo County, California, had the highest median home sale price this year, at $8.3 million. It's followed by Sagaponack on Long Island, New York, where the median house sells for more over $8 million.
