Together with participating schools, the Government of Ontario offers a merit-based scholarship for graduate students who wish to study in select Ontario institutions.
The financial award is given for a minimum of 1 year to a maximum of 2 years. Despite this cap, students may qualify for the lifetime limit of 6 years.
2. Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) was created to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and to establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. The scholarships are towards a doctoral degree (or combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD).

5. Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award Scholarship
This is a merit-based scholarship. It is open to candidates who have not yet completed their first bachelor’s degree and come from a UBC-recognized secondary school. However, those who have spent a year at a secondary college or university are also eligible for this scholarship. There is a better chance of winning the grant for students who demonstrate leadership in community service and student affairs. Other requirements include A-level results and proof of financial need. Scholarship applicants, like all other UBC students, must meet all of the university’s degree-specific and language requirements. Depending on the student’s academic performance, the Karen McKellin award can be renewed annually.

6. University of British Columbia Scholarships for International Students
The International Scholars Program brings some of the world’s brightest young undergraduates to UBC. International Scholars are high academic achievers who have demonstrated exceptional extracurricular activities, show a desire to create global change, and they are dedicated to giving back to their schools and communities.
International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES) are awarded to exceptional international students entering undergraduate programs at UBC. Students receive their IMES when they enter their first year at UBC, and the scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years of study. The number and level of these scholarships awarded each year vary, depending on available funding.
7. University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF)
Each year, more than $2 million dollars in university graduate fellowships are offered to full-time master’s and PhD students to recognize and support academic excellence. The fellowships are offered to students who have demonstrated superior intellectual ability and academic accomplishment.
UMGF master’s awards are valued at $14,000 per year for 12 or 24 months, for up to a total of $28,000.
UMGF doctoral awards are valued at $18,000 per year for 12, 24, 36 or 48 months, for up to a total of $72,000.
Departments/units determine the value and duration of an award and must meet the eligibility criteria as outlined in the eligibility table.
Total maximum UMGF support for any individual graduate student is five years (60 months). This means that a student who has received a UMGF for two years in their master’s program will only be eligible for three years of UMGF funding at the doctoral level.
8. University of Calgary International Entrance Scholarship
Offered annually to undergraduate international students entering first year in any undergraduate degree in the upcoming fall term who have satisfied the university's English Language Proficiency requirement. Renewable in the second, third and fourth year at the University of Calgary, provided recipients achieve a GPA of 2.60 or more over a minimum of 24.00 units in the previous fall and winter terms and continue to pay an international differential tuition fee as an international student.

9. International Undergraduate Leadership Scholarships
Scholarship Amount: CAD 10,000 ($7,985) a year for 4 years
Eligible Degree: Bachelor’s Degree at York University – Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies
The International Undergraduate Leadership Scholarship is offered to 50 international students every year. Awardees are chosen according to their contribution to community service, sports, and the arts.
This Canada scholarship is exclusive for high school-level applicants who have applied to the faculty mentioned above.
To apply, applicants must be nominated by their respective high schools. As such, the applicant must provide the contact details of the counselor who nominated him/her.
Apart from this, proof of excellent academic standing (A levels) is required. A letter of recommendation is also necessary to push through with the nomination.
