A luxury yacht is not just a mode of transportation, but a symbol of wealth and status symbol, that can only be afforded by the wealthy billionaires of the world. Most expensive superyachts worldwide offer extravagant features like movie helipads, theatres, concert halls, multiple swimming pools, saunas and hot tubs.

There are only a handful of luxury yachts sailing the world’s oceans today. Each one is unique in its way, much like the often-mysterious owners at the helm. You would think that, with a $5 billion yacht, you would want to show off your achievements, but most want to escape from the trouble of the world and enjoy a cruise in luxury and style.

What Are The Most Expensive Superyachts in The World?

1. History Supreme - $4.8 Billion

If you are ever lucky enough to step your feet on History Supreme you might as well be counted among the world’s wealthiest. This superyacht made by the famous designer Stuart Hughes has been valued variously with the highest we have found being $4.8 billion. Officially, however, the luxury liner is listed at 3 billion GBP on the Stuart Hughes Website, an amount which translates to 3,642,900,000 USD. However, after adding the tax due to the purchase, the price comes up to the neighborhoods of $4.8 billion depending on the exchange rates at the time of the purchase.

History Supreme measures 100 feet in length and is adorned with 100,000 kg of ornamental metals especially platinum and gold. Just like other luxury liners, this vessel has a deck, base, sleeping areas, dining halls, and recreational facilities. However, one thing that sets it apart from its peers is that its walls are lined with what you would think is ivory (which would have been lavish enough all the same). But Hughes says those super-polished bony structures are genuine dinosaur bones.

Other superyachts that trail far behind History Supreme in cost are Azzam – valued at $650 million, Dubai at $350 million, Serene at $330 million, and Superyacht A at $323 million.

2. Eclipse – $1.5 Billion

On top of that, Eclipse has two helipads, two swimming pools, 24 guest bedrooms, a disco hall and a mini-submarine. It’s unclear how much Eclipse actually cost, but it is believed to be in the region of $1.5 billion!

Reports claim Russian tycoon Andrey Melnichenko owns the Motor Yacht A, with its unique design. If you lay eyes upon the Motor Yacht A, your first thought is of a stealth warship or military submarine, not a luxury yacht. Architect Martin Francis and designer Philippe Stark, alongside Blohm and Voss in Kiel, constructed a boat that you cannot judge from the exterior alone. Inside, the 400-foot yacht features a master bedroom, disco floor, six guest suites, and moving walls to transform the guest suites into staterooms quickly.

Al Said is rumored to be owned by a member of the royal family of Oman and is reportedly the world's highest displacement superyacht with a displacement of 15850 tons and a length of 508.53 feet. The yacht can host up to 70 guests along with 154 crew members and features a concert hall that can accommodate a 50-piece orchestra. It enjoys a speed of 47 kmph.

About the Al Said's Owner

The owner of the Royal Yacht Al Said is the Sultan of Oman (and all of its Dependencies) after rising to power by overthrowing his own father, Said bin Taimur during a 1970 palace coup. (What a nice guy, right?) He’s also the 14th-generation descendant of the Al Bu Sa’idi dynasty’s founder. Oman (aka the Sultanate of Oman) is, of course, an Arab country in the Middle East that lies on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula as well as on the Persian Gulf. As you may have already guessed, it’s an absolute monarchy, which was once known as the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman. It also once included portions of what is now the United Arab Emirates and certain parts of Pakistan. This also a country with very close ties to Saudi Arabia, often functioning as an impartial mediator between Saudi Arabia and countries like Qatar and Iran or Qatar. In addition, the country has a Royal Military Academy that is really highly-regarded.

The Sultan’s full title is Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said and, he also owns eight palaces and three luxury yachts. Besides the Al Said, he also owns the Loalat al Behar and the Fulk al Salamah. The Loaloat Al Behar was the prior Al Said, which was a gift to the Ministry of Tourism of Oman and has been recently refitted and repainted. The Fulk Al Salamah Yacht functions as a support vessel for the Royal Yacht Al Said. She was built in Italy at the Mariotti shipyard and delivered in 2016. At 150 meter (492 ft) she’s actually almost as big overall as the yacht Al Said and one of the largest superyachts worldwide.
