Vertu has been known for making handcrafted luxury handsets, and the new Vertu SIGNATURE Cobra is no different. To set the record straight, SIGNATURE Cobra is not a smartphone and features specifications comparable to a feature phone. The new bar-shaped handset carries the trademark design as seen on trademark Vertu SIGNATURE handsets, but with a cobra snake wrapped around. The body of the snake is made up sticking 439 rubies while the eyes of the snake are made up of emeralds.
Precisely cut gems and built from mosaic process are highlights of the cell phone. According to a GizChina report, the SIGNATURE Cobra is made of 388 different parts and is hand assembled in the UK. Notably, Vertu has only made eight units of the SIGNATURE Cobra handset, so it is certainly a limited edition.

At the Baselworld 2009 were presented some very interesting luxury phones like Ulysse Nardin’s Chairman and the extremely expensive Revolution by the Swiss company GoldVish. It is known for the Le Million, a handset with the hefty price of $1,200,000. The Revolution is not that expensive (only $490,500) and has analog watch with visible moving parts, made by Frederic Jouvenot. The body of the Revolution is covered with 18-carat pink and white gold, and is encrusted with diamonds with a total weight of 29 carats. The manufacturer claims that it uses “the latest mobile technology”, but currently there is no information about its specifications. Currently there is no information about the availability but don’t expect to see it in the local IKEA store.
8. Gresso Luxor Las Vegas Jackpot – $1 Million

Gresso is known for its incredibly expensive handsets but today the company reached a whole new level by announcing the Luxor Las Vegas Jackpot. And it is a jackpot alright: the phone is priced at 1 000 000 US dollars and only three units of it will be produced (each with a number engraved on its back). Just like Le Million which was announced several years ago.
What makes it so expensive are the black diamonds (totaling the whooping 45.5 K) covering its front while and the 200-year old African blackwood used for its back. And that 12-mm thin frame is made of 180 grams of gold.
The Gresso Luxor Las Vegas Jackpot keypad consists of 17 manually polished and laser etched sapphires weighing 32 K.
If you can't afford the Las Vegas Jackpot (and let's face it - you can't) there is a cheaper alternative that you might want to consider. Enter the second Gresso announcement for today - the Gresso Luxor Las Vegas. Made of solid gold and some 200-year old African blackwood, it gets rid of all the diamonds and brings the price down to "only" 20 000 US dollars.
