Top 10 Most Expensive Non-Vintage Cars In The World. Photo KnowInsiders

For most of us, the ultimate luxury car would be a high-end model of a mass-produced car -- let’s say a Lexus LC convertible (starting at $94,075) or a BMW X6 M50i crossover ($108,000 with all the bells and whistles). But for the world’s super-rich, there’s a whole different level of luxury driving experiences available.

These elite models include high-performance hypercars, bespoke coaches, or so-called “halo” cars made to showcase an automaker’s latest performance capabilities. In some cases these vehicles are treated by their owners more like art pieces and investments than something they’d drive very often.

To assemble a list of the most expensive new cars in the world today, we reviewed pricing data from MotorTrend and other automotive publications, and from luxury automakers’ websites.

10. Lamborghini Veneno

Based on the Lamborghini Aventador, the Veneno was built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini. It features the Aventador's 6.5-litre V12, producing 740 hp and is a road-going version of Lambo’s racing prototype. It can go 0 to 60mph in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 221 mph.

The name "Veneno" comes from a famous fighting bull; most Lamborghinis are named after deceased bovine warriors, and all of them, including Veneno, had sent a matador to the next life.

Only three Venenos were ever built, and all were purchased before they were even seen by the buyers. The Veneno is a little too much like a spaceship or a Transformers toy for some, but while it may look like something you’d see repeated across a child’s bedroom wallpaper, it is nothing if not eye-catching, a quality that many of the world’s super-rich appreciate.

9. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita

> Price: $4.8 million

When the sunlight hits the carbon fibre of the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita, it sparkles as if millions of diamonds are in the body; Trevita means "three whites" in Swedish. Before the CCXR, carmakers only had access to black carbon fibre weave, but Koenigsegg developed a new process to make the material white.

Because the process of manufacturing the white body shell was so laborious, Koenigsegg decided they would only make two. One supposes they could have built it using black carbon fibre then covered it in sparkling white paint - but then they wouldn’t be able to charge millions of dollars for it!

Purportedly a Trevita was bought by Floyd Mayweather for $4.8m. It's V8 engine boasts 1,018hp and it can reach at least 254 mph. It’s not clear who purchased the second model.

8. Pagani Huayra Imola

> Price: $5.4 million

The Imola is powered by the same twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine found in the regular Huayra which has been developed by Mercedes-AMG specifically for Pagani; however, the engine has been tuned in the Imola to churn out an astounding 827 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque, which not only makes it more potent than the Huayra BC fixed-head coupe and roadster but also the most powerful Pagani ever. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential gearbox developed by the motorsport specialist Xtrac. The carbon fiber-intensive bodywork also features added aero elements, including a crazy roof scoop. “Customer involvement was very much a part of the Pagani Imola project,” said founder and chief designer Horacio Pagani.

7. Bugatti Divo

> Price: $5.8 million

A more exotic-looking and exclusive version of the Bugatti Chiron hypercar, the Divo is a study in aerodynamics. Its name pays homage to French racing driver Albert Divo, who won the prestigious Targa Florio endurance race twice in the 1920s behind the wheel of a Bugatti. True to form, the French automaker has put a cap on production: It will build only 40 examples of the Divo, all of which have been spoken for. Compared with the Chiron, the Divo's key enhancements include an upgraded suspension, additional weight savings, and all kinds of aerodynamic wizardry. While both Bugatti models look outrageous, it's not difficult to tell them apart: If it has a dorsal fin, a carved-up hood, and cheese-grater taillights under an enormous wing, you're looking at the Divo.

6. Pagani Huayra Tricolore

> Price: $6.5 million

Pagani fits a new front splitter and rear diffuser for added downforce, as well as a new front bumper that's designed to guide cool air directly to the engine, per the automaker. Other exterior details include rear wing supports shaped to mimic the tail fin of the Aermacchi MB-339A P.A.N (the aircraft currently used by the Frecce Tricolore). There's also a pitot tube—a device normally reserved for airplanes to measure fluid flow velocity—on the hood of the Huayra. It's purely cosmetic, though.

5. Bugatti Centodieci

> Price: $9.0 million

We know what you're thinking: "Bugatti doesn’t really have an entry-level model, does it?"

But among the super-rich, the Centodieci ("110" in Italian), might represent something of a bargain, relatively speaking.

This one is also based on an older model - the 1987 EB110, well-loved for its "decent" 20mpg, and, more genuinely, for the fact it could travel more than 500 miles on a single tank.

The Centodieci successfully reflects the blistering acceleration of the old EB110, only more so - as you might expect. It can manage 0-124 mph in just 6.1 seconds - 0.4 seconds faster than the Chiron, on which it is based.Everything about this aggressive-looking vehicle screams “look at me”, including the five rounded air-intakes shaped like a diamond; 8 taillights, quad exhausts; and a very limited production run. Just 10 will be produced, with deliveries from the Molsheim factory due to take place in 2021.

4. Rolls Royce Sweptail

> Price: $13.0 million

The Rolls-Royce Sweptail is another one-off car, and one that also draws inspiration from the finer things in life. Giles Taylor, director of design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, described the Sweptail as "the automotive equivalent of Haute couture" - talking in much the same terms as Bugatti.

The Sweptail was also inspired by the coach building of the 1920s and 1930s, and was commissioned at the request of an aircraft and superyacht specialist who had a special idea. However, the base design for the car was the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé.

Costing $12.8 million (£10.2m) in 2017, the Sweptail took four years to build and at the time it was finished it was the most expensive car of all time. Just two years later it was supplanted by Bugatti's La Voiture Noire, listed above. However, it is still regarded as the most unique and expensive Rolls Royce ever built.

3. Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta

With it’s unique (some would argue ugly) look, the HP Barchetta has added to the incredible legacy of Pagani Zonda. Horacio Pagani, the founder of Pagani Automobili, named this magnificent edition of Zondas for its cunning resemblance to a ‘little boat.’ Only three of these vehicles will ever be made, hence the hefty price tag, and all three have been booked already. One of the models was reserved by the founder as a present for his 60th birthday.

2. Bugatti La Voiture Noire

> Price: $18.7 million

According to Bugatti, their vintage Type 57 SC Atlantic reflects the marque's "pioneering spirit, passion for perfection and the desire to continually redefine its limits". As such, Bugatti drew inspiration from the old Type 57 when creating La Voiture Noire - or "the Black Car" (we reckon it sounds better in French). One of the four Atlantics ever built has been missing since World War Two - and La Voiture Noire is an homage to that car.

At $18.68 million (£15m), La Voiture Noire has the biggest price tag of any car, ever. Only one will ever exist, and more than two years after it was sold, it still hasn’t left the production line!

La Voiture Noire packs a 1,500 horsepower engine that pushes it to speeds of up to 261mph.

1. Rolls-Royce Boat Tail

> Price: $28.0 million

Rolls-Royce Boat Tail becomes the world's most expensive car as it is priced at $28 million (Rs. Rs 202 crore) approximately.

The 2021 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is a four-seater luxury car that stands 19-feet long. It is the first Rolls-Royce car to have been commissioned under the luxury carmaker's new Coachbuild program. The Boat Tail car is inspired from the Rolls-Royce Sweptail car, a one-off model which was the most expensive car from the luxury carmaker till date. It was sold in 2017 for 12.8 million pounds.

The name Boat Tail refers to the Rolls-Royce car's rear which is shaped like a J-class racing yacht. It took more than four years for Roll-Royce employees to hand-build this car. Only three models of the 2021 Boat Tail will see the daylight.

Rolls-Royce had built the Sweptail car on the basis of request from a very wealthy European. The 2021 Boat Tail is no exception. According to Rolls-Royce, the three patrons who coordinated with the brand's designers to build this super-luxury vehicle, shared a single demand: "Show me something that I have never seen before."
