Why the most expensive?

While London slipped outside the top five least affordable cities for the first time in six years, Winchester topped the list this year. Calculated by assessing housing costs in relation to people’s average earnings, the 20 least affordable also included Bath, Chichester, and Truro in the top five.

Cornwall's only city has been named among the most profitable places in the UK to run a holiday let from and in turn, one of the priciest to rent one.

Beating the likes of London, Glasgow and Manchester in terms of average cost per night, Truro has been named one of the most profitable cities in the UK to own an Airbnb, according to a recent study,

Crafted Beds conducted the study to determine which UK locations will increase the value of an Airbnb listing per night with Airbnb becoming a reliable source of income for many across the county.

It found that Truro came in ninth place with an average price of £92.50 per night making the city's Airbnbs more profitable than the average one in London at £90.20 per night.

Taking the top spot was Newcastle at £122 per night on average followed by Leeds at £121.60 and York at £120. Exeter came in fourth place with an average nightly rate of £118.60.

Bath came in at the same average nightly cost as Truro with London, Belfast, Bristol, and Manchester all falling behind.

Edinburgh is apparently charging the least at an average of £64.40 per night with Aberdeen and Birmingham also coming in at under £80 per night on average.

Crafted Beds said that with a rise in the number of staycation holidaymakers, Airbnb was once again becoming a reliable source of income for many in the UK.

Airbnb has been criticised in recent times due to a number of growing Airbnb rentals in the county but a lack of long term rental housing in Cornwall.
