Most of us have no idea how many stunning locations there are in the world. You'll never run out of things to see and do, from breathtaking waterfalls and jaw-dropping natural wonders to mysterious lost cities and quaint landmarks.
Not only is it difficult to narrow the world's most beautiful destinations down to just 10, but doing so would take at least a lifetime. We've narrowed it down to a select few places, though, that really ought to be at the top of your list at all times, because each one represents a unique and unforgettable adventure.
1. Death Valley, California
Death Valley, famous as the hottest place on Earth, hit a record high of 53 degrees Celsius in 2019. It's a huge region full of contrasts, from snowy peaks to scorching sands to fields of wildflowers in the National Park.
Fans of "Star Wars" will no doubt be interested in visiting the location that served as inspiration for the fictional planet Tatooine, which is the multicolored hills of "Artists Palette."
2. Provence, France
Some of the things that set Provence apart in France are its miles-long stretches of lavender fields, its Michelin-starred cuisine, its picturesque roads, art studios, mountain passes, and the glittering blues of the Mediterranean Sea.
3. Hallstatt, Austria
The majestic glaciers and verdant meadows give this area a special allure. The Hallstatt salt mine, which contains the oldest wooden staircase in Europe (estimated to be around 3000 years old), is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you want to avoid the masses, you should put this snowboarding and skiing hotspot on your travel bucket list right away.
4. Cappadocia, Turkey

Cappadocia is a living demonstration of the strange beauty that exists in the natural world. It presents a fantasy-like landscape that looks like it's been plucked out of a fairy tale, alien-like hills and boulders that seem as if they've been transported from another planet. Humans who once inhabited this area dug into the soft stone here to construct underground dwellings, leaving behind a plethora of bizarre man-made structures.
The lunar landscape is stunning on its own, but the countless hot-air balloons that fill up the sky with shades of red, yellow, orange and cream simply take its beauty to the next level. Highlights of Cappadocia include the Goreme Open Air Museum with its rock-cut churches and the underground marvels of Kaymakli.
5. The Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye, Scotland

The Fairy Pool is an ethereal oasis that captivates visitors with its glistening water, idyllic scenery, and mystical vibe, and it may even make you believe in fairies. Even though the water is extremely cold, it is the best place to go wild swimming. Even if you're not particularly daring, a stroll around the area will leave you feeling good as you discover the various pools of varying shades of blue. There's a private infinity pool there, too, surrounded by a stunning stone wall.
6. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

The world's largest salt mine is also one of its most stunning natural attractions. Salar de Uyuni is one of South America's most impressive natural wonders, and it looks like something out of a Renaissance-era fantasy painting. The sheer beauty of this vast desert leaves you speechless and the strange islands that form in a sea of salt present an unforgettable landscape that is sure to remain etched in your minds forever.
7. Trolltunga, Norway
What makes this location special is the way every angle contradicts the next. Trolltunga, which towers over Ringedalsvatnet Lake by some 700 meters, is one of Norway's most famous natural attractions. Trolltunga, at the edge of the Hardangervidda plateau in western Norway, was shaped by the icecap that once covered much of Scandinavia.
8. Meteora, Greece

It is the largest archaeological site in Greece, and as such, it has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 24 monasteries that were originally constructed on the nearly inaccessible sandstone towers of Meteora in the 11th century are now home to only 4. You won't find a more otherworldly scene than this collection of massive rock pillars topped with monasteries anywhere else on Earth.
9. Lapland, Finland
Lapland is the perfect place for a fairytale vacation, what with its unique landscapes, frequent displays of the Northern Lights, and human population that is outnumbered by reindeer. Each season here is distinct from the others, but winter is especially magical. Recharge your batteries in the great outdoors in Lapland's far north.
10. Sintra, Portugal
Exotic villas, whimsical palaces, and the ruins of a moor peek out from behind pine-covered hills in this breathtaking landscape that looks like it was plucked from a fantasy novel. Don't leave without exploring the historic quarter's quaint shops and the Gothic national palace.
|Should you fly right now? |
It all depends on what you decide. Just remember to factor in the potential consequences. If you're sick or at higher risk for the coronavirus, it is probably best to stay on the ground. The same goes for anyone else who wants to tag along on your trip. Dr. Khabbaza advises that, when deciding whether or not to fly, passengers should consider their own "level of risk tolerance" in light of the local rates of COVID-19 at both their origin and destination airports. "If you do choose to fly, it can be done safely by sticking to the basics."
