Crystal Palace will be hoping to pick up where they left off under Roy Hodgson in the new Premier League season after an impressive end to last season under the 75-year-old veteran. Who will their rivals and hottest matches in Premier League 2023-2024?

Crystal Palace Fixtures In Premier League 2023/2024: Overview

The Eagles' 23–24 campaign will begin on Saturday, August 12, against Sheffield United, who were just promoted, and conclude on Saturday, August 19, when they welcome Arsenal to Selhurst Park.

August ends with a London derby, this time away at Brentford on Saturday, August 26. Following an international break in September, there are home games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham, as well as away games against Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Palace's last away game of the season is at Wolves on Saturday, May 11. The following Sunday, May 19, all 20 Premier League teams will play their final home game of 2023–24 at 16:00 BST against Aston Villa.

Once more, during the Christmas and New Year holidays, no club will be required to play with fewer than 48 hours between matches; in fact, travel will be purposefully reduced between December 23 and December 30.

During this period, Palace will play one away game—at Chelsea on Boxing Day (Tuesday, December 26)—and two home games—against Brentford (Saturday, December 30) and Brighton & Hove Albion (Saturday, December 23).

It is also important to keep in mind that because our opponents are competing in European competition, some of our games, like our home match against Tottenham Hotspur (which is currently scheduled for Saturday, October 28) or our away game against West Ham United (which is currently scheduled for Saturday, December 2), may be moved from Saturday to Sunday.

Where was Crystal Palace in last five seasons?

Crystal Palace appeared to be in danger of relegation when the club parted ways with Patrick Vieira in March after a run of 11 Premier League games without a win, but the return of former manager Roy Hodgson resulted in a significant improvement in fortunes.

After managing the club for four years between 2017 and 2021, Hodgson's appointment restored a sense of stability and calm at Selhurst Park, with the Eagles losing just two of their final ten league matches with the former England manager at the helm.

Hodgson was able to free Palace's most gifted creative talents, most notably Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, with the South London club scoring 18 goals in their last two games.

The below table illustrates Crystal Palace's league finishes over the past five seasons:

Season League finish
2022/23 11th
2021/22 12th
2020/21 14th
2019/20 14th
2018/19 12th

Crystal Palace manager - Roy Hodgson

Roy Hodgson, now 75 years old and the oldest manager in Premier League history, signed a one-year contract this summer after leading Crystal Palace to Premier League success after taking over on an interim basis in March.

With a wealth of experience managing across four decades in countries all over Europe, Hodgson was able to get the best out of Palace's star attacking players, Eze and Olise, who registered 13 goal contributions between them in the final ten games of last season.

The former Inter and Liverpool manager has openly acknowledged Palace's attacking midfielders' technical brilliance as a key strength of the squad at his disposal, and that instilling confidence in them is essential.

Although Hodgson's appointment this summer is hardly forward-thinking, it provides Palace with a secure stop-gap while the club's hierarchy led by chairman Steve Parish considers a long-term successor in line with their vision and goals.

Conclusion

The manner in which Palace finished last season will have given the club's ardent fanbase hope for the new season, and potentially challenging for a top-half finish in the Premier League for only the second time in 11 seasons, but their first goal will be to avoid relegation danger, which they flirted with last season.

Palace's expectations for the new season will also be heavily influenced by Wilfried Zaha's future, with the talismanic figure weighing his options after his contract at Selhurst Park expired this summer after eight years of service.
