Dubai is a fascinating and captivating city. The pictures of Dubai typically leave you with a sense of awe and wonder, but it is important to note that these pictures only portray one side of the marvelous city. These interesting facts about Dubai will surprise you. Let's with KnowInsider uncover the side of Dubai that is hidden away.

1. No Income Tax In Dubai

Apart from an often very attractive salary you also won’t have to pay any income taxes when you make your money in Dubai. That being said, the cost of living is cheap by any means. The Emirate does not charge any income tax to its citizens/residents. Corporate taxes and excise taxes on harmful products are still in effect. This attracts a lot of people who come to Dubai with the idea of saving a good amount of money in a short amount of time.

More than 25% of the world’s physical gold passed through Dubai. Show off and beautify all of your valuables. Gold plating items like cars, furniture and electronics has become a trend in Dubai. If you prefer good old fashioned jewellery instead, head over to the Gold Souk. It is so overflowing with gold it’s hard to look at, and even harder to look away.

But the funniest fact when it comes to their love of gold is that they hold a world record for making the longest gold chain. The chain measures 5,522 meters (18,116 ft 9.14 in)!

3. The Largest Shopping Mall in the World

At over 12 million square feet (equivalent to more than 50 soccer fields), the Dubai Mall is the largest shopping mall in the world based on total area. The mall contains more than 1,200 shops, an ice rink, a SEGA game centre, a five-star hotel, 22 cinema screens and 120 restaurants and cafes. It also boasts the largest indoor aquarium in the world and it’s the gateway to the Burj Khalifa, tallest building in the world.

In Dubai, robots are replacing illegal child labor in camel racing, which only children can participate in. Instead of allowing Dubai residents’ children to participate, there has been a problem in the past with having children illegally trafficked into the country to race camels. The rest of the world eventually caught on to the issue and has since put a stop to it for the most part. The sport has become so big that people actually place bets on robots and their camels!

Now, child-sized robots are being built and are racing the camels. They cost anywhere from $300 to $10,000.

5. The sun is shining almost year round

Dubai has become one of the most visited destinations during the winter months. The shining sun is definitely one of the reasons, and the climate is quite pleasing year round with only a few days of rain.

However, it can get really hot during the summer. Luckily, 99.9% of buildings, hotels, malls etc have air condition to cool you down.

Evidently, Dubai is all about testing humanity’s capabilities when it comes to architecture. This tennis court is over 1,000 feet from the ground and it is located at the top of the ultra posh Burj al Arab hotel. Roger Federer and Andre Agassi were invited to play a friendly match atop this heavenly court, but we wonder how someone can actually play up there without feeling uneasy! Also if a ball were to go flying off the court and hit someone on the ground, they would die upon impact.

7. The Lowest Crime Rates in the World

Dubai is one of the safest cities to live in as of 2020. They have a minuscule 5 crimes for every 100,000 people. The Crime Index by Country report ranks the UAE as the third safest country in the world, with a safety index score of 84.55 and a crime index score of 15.45. Security should be the least of one’s concern when traveling to the United Arab Emirates.
