With Brighton hoping to secure their place in football's top division – and United looking to give local rivals Manchester City a hard time at the top of the table – there's a lot at stake. Photo: NewsBeezer

Manchester United will hope to begin what is a successful spring leg of their 2020/21 season when Brighton comes to town on Sunday.

United are unlikely to win the Premier League this season but can still advance in the Europa League and have a top-four spot to contest.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have just nine Premier League fixtures remaining to secure lucrative European football for next season and will be aware of the chasing pack that includes Leicester, Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham.

Brighton, meanwhile, are nervously looking over their shoulder at Newcastle and Fulham, who are battling it out to avoid the drop this term.

The Seagulls have earned back-to-back wins to ease the pressure on Graham Potter but the boss would dearly love a point from this trip north.

KnowInsiders has rounded up everything you need to know about how to watch Man Utd v Brighton on TV and online.

BRIGHTON TEAM NEWS

Danny Welbeck is in contention to play at his old stamping ground and Adam Webster could be closer to a comeback. However, Tariq Lamptey and Solly March, who scored in our dramatic 3-2 win in the corresponding fixture in September, are out for the season. Florin Andone and striker Aaron Connolly, who withdrew from Republic of Ireland duty with a calf problem, may miss out.

MAN UNITED TEAM NEWS

The Reds return to action following the international break with the 19:30 BST kick-off, looking to complete the double over the Seagulls following the dramatic 3-2 victory at the Amex Stadium in our second match of the season.

With a number of players back from international duty, Ole is assessing his options and still playing the waiting game as he ponders his line-up.

The good news is Marcus Rashford is training and will hopefully be available, despite being forced to leave England's camp with an ankle injury.

Mason Greenwood is also striving to be fit after withdrawing from the England Under-21s squad but Anthony Martial sustained a knee problem while with France. There is also a doubt over Victor Lindelof, who missed Sweden's final match of the break.

In terms of who starts in goal, David De Gea or Dean Henderson, Ole commented: "You know, I have a great option of two top goalkeepers and it's a pleasure to have them right here. We've got, hopefully, nine plus five games to go because we want to go all the way in the Europa League, so I'm sure you'll see both of them playing in goal for us.“

Man Utd v Brighton: Prediction

Manchester United have enough firepower to blow Brighton away even if the likes of Rashford and Martial aren’’t fit enough to feature.

Don’t be surprised if Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba feature in the midfield, while Donny van de Beek and Fred should drop to the bench. Defensively United should be able to handle Brighton so this tie could be settled in the midfield.

If Solskjaer’s men can grab an early goal it will settle the nerves, but even if they have to wait until the second half, the likes of Bruno Fernandes and James should provide a winner at some point.

Our prediction: Man Utd 2-0 Brighton (7/1 at bet365)

Man Utd vs Brighton Stats

  • Man Utd are unbeaten in their last nine matches.
  • Brighton have lost just two of their last eight away games.

Betting Tips: Man Utd to win & both teams to score

Brighton have a solid away record—losing just two of their last eight—and with goals in four of their last five outings on the road, they’ll feel they certainly have a chance.

Meanwhile, the hosts have kept only two clean sheets in their last six league matches at Old Trafford (against West Ham and ten-then-nine-man Southampton), so their defence is far from impenetrable.

Albion hit the woodwork five times in their last game against United, and a similarly colourful affair could be on the cards, so this is a price worth taking.

Manchester United vs Brighton Odds

Manchester United are odds-on favorites to beat in-form Brighton at Old Trafford.
