Preview, Team News Man United vs Leeds
Leeds were on the receiving end of a humiliating 6-2 drubbing when they last visited Old Trafford but managed to hold the Red Devils to a 0-0 draw at Elland Road in April.
Both sides will be desperate to make a positive start to the new campaign and the presence of both home and away supporters is almost certain to add spice to the encounter.
Manchester United could have four players missing through injury and illness.
Marcus Rashford will miss the game due to an operation on his shoulder, Alex Telles is unlikely to play in August due to an ankle injury and Jesse Lingard will miss out having tested positive for COVID-19. Dean Henderson may also be absent after contracting the virus as although he is now testing negative, the goalkeeper is suffering from its after effects.
Leeds may be without defender Diego Llorente, who went off injured in the pre-season friendly defeat to Real Betis and has not been seen since.
Manchester United are likely to bring in David De Gea if Dean Henderson is still suffering the after-effects of coronavirus.
While Varane may be included in the matchday squad, the Frenchman’s signature hasn't actually been confirmed yet and it is also unlikely he will be fit enough to start alongside Harry Maguire in defence.
Manchester United Predicted line-up: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Greenwood, Fernandes, James; Martial. Leeds Predicted line-up: Meslier; Ayling, Cooper, Koch, Firpo; Dallas, Klich; Raphinha, Harrison, Bamford. |
