The 2021-21 Carabao Cup kicked off at the beginning August, with Championship, League One and League Two sides entering the competition.

Premier League sides join in the second round and third round, with the latter stages of the competition, such as the Wembley final, set to be played in early 2022.

About the EFL Cup

The League Cup, also known as the EFL Cup or the Carabao Cup, is England’s second most important knockout competition after the FA Cup.

The League Cup is a knockout competition for all 92 clubs in the Premier League and Football League — the top four levels of the pyramid of English leagues.

EFL stands for English Football League, and the Cup is sponsored by Carabao, a Thai energy drink company. In the past, it’s been known as the Carling Cup, the Milk Cup and many other names.

The 2021-22 EFL Cup will be played for the 62nd time. After a year of COVID adjustments, the Cup is back to the normal schedule.

Manchester City are the four-time defending champions; they defeated Tottenham Hotspur, 1-0, in the 2021 final at Wembley.

The winner of the competition qualifies for the play-off round of the next season’s Europa Conference League (if they fail to have already qualified for the Champions League or the Europa League).

The last time these two clubs met each other was more than two decades ago, with the game ending in a 2-1 win for Wycombe in League Division 2. Since then, both the clubs have taken different routes in the footballing map - for one, progress has been stagnant; for the other, they are on a rocketship to becoming one of Europe's best.

Overall, they have played each other on four occasions, with City taking a solitary win and two going Wycombe's way.

Manchester City come into this fixture on the back of four wins in their last games across all competitions. As for their opponents, they have managed three wins in their last five.

Goal-keeper

A.Przybek (8.0 Cr) will have to work at his best to stay in competition during this match as goals will be expected and the ball will be near his goal for most of the match.

Defenders

J.Cancelo (9.0 Cr) is improving in form and looks like he doesn’t get tired because of his constant appearances in all matches with brilliant lay in both attack and defense makes him our prime choice.

K.Walker (8.5 Cr) holds the right wing-back position and manages to play higher up the pitch along with his pacey full-back skills.

J.Jacobson (9.0 Cr) should be ready to make his mark in this contest and to help the team with a performance that could help them qualify for the next round.

Midfielders

K.de Bruyne (10 Cr) should return to this match with full fitness which can push his confidence for the upcoming matches allowing him to create chances and score goals.

R.Mahrez (9.5 Cr) has received lesser game time this season even though he holds a lot of potential which should keep him pumped to prove his place in the lineup.

Fernandinho (8.5 Cr) looks in fantastic form and looks to be well suited with the manager’s instructions to hold his place as the defensive midfielder and switching to push the attack.

S.Kaikai (8.0 Cr) works as the winger and has provided 2 assist in league football this season which should be his role for this match.

Forwards

F.Torres (9.5 Cr) has scored several goals this season but looks to have lost his touch in the recent matches and this match could help him regain his form.

P.Foden (9.0 Cr) has returned from injury and is still finding his groove from last season with this match helping him with a more confident game to focus on the upcoming season.

A.Akinfenwa (8.5 Cr) has scored a goal in the EFL cup match he played which should allow him to push further to find any chances he receives which makes him a player to look out for in this match.

Captain And Vice-Captain

K.de Bruyne is our captain because of his goal-scoring skills and the ability to find players in the box.

R.Mahrez will be our vice-captain because of his powerful striking and the ability to push further to move freely in compact spaces.

Who won last season's Carabao Cup?

Manchester City defeated Tottenham to lift the Carabao Cup at the end of the 2020-21 campaign. Pep Guardiola's side emerged victorious at Wembley thanks to a solitary Aymeric Laporte goal.

It was a record-equalling eighth League Cup for City, who drew level with Liverpool to become the joint-most successful team in the history of the competition.

Impressively, it was their fourth League Cup success in a row, having also won the competition in 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20.
