Locke and Key |
Release Date
We don’t have an exact release date just yet. We know it won’t arrive in May 2021, but we shouldn’t be waiting too much longer. Back in December 2020, Netflix confirmed that Locke and Key season 2 would definitely arrive sometime in 2021.
Renewal Status
So far, there are three seasons of Locke and Key confirmed. Yes, even without the second season premiering, Netflix has confirmed Locke and Key season 3 is going to happen. This just shows the support the show already has and the hope Netflix has for its future.
Official renewal status: Officially renewed as of March 30th, 2020
On March 30th, 2020 it was confirmed that Locke & Key would be returning for a second season. The renewal promised more keys and demons and perhaps most importantly, more aloha!
According to our sources which provides production schedules, the series was in active development for a second season soon after the first season released. Once again, filming will take place in Toronto, Canada. More on production schedules in just a second.
Both showrunners, Meredith Averill and Carlton Cuse spoke about plans for a second season in interviews during the press tour for Locke & Key. That includes an interview with Gamespot where the creators said: “We’re writing Season 2, even though it hasn’t been greenlit. We’re working in a room,”
Connor Jessup who plays Tyler Locke also expressed that there’s definitely room for a second season in an interview saying: “The writers have been working on season 2 so if it does get picked up, we are ready.” adding the end of season 1 definitely sets up a second season, according to Whats-On-Netflix.
Cast
The cast for Locke & Key season 2 will remain largely the same although there will be some new faces.
The confirmed list of returning stars include:
Darby Stanchfield as Nina Locke
Connor Jessup as Tyler Locke
Emilia Jones as Kinsey Locke

Laysla De Oliveira as Dodge
Petrice Jones as Scot Cavendish
Bill Heck as Rendell Locke
Thomas Mitchell Barnett as Sam Lesser
Sherri Saum as Ellie Whedon

Back in September 2020, we got word of some of the new names and promotions in season 2 of Locke & Key including Aaron Ashmore and Hallea Jones both being promoted to series regulars. Brendan Hines will join the cast to play Josh Bennett.
Plot
The fantasy horror series that’s based on the comic series from Joe Hill sees three siblings move into a house with plenty of magic and secrets hidden inside. Season 1 consisted of 10 episodes, which all dropped on Netflix globally on February 7th, 2020.
There will be 10 episodes in the second season. The third season will also have 10 episodes. Both match the episode count for the first season.
This has become about average for Netflix shows, with some shows just falling short at eight episodes. Eight to 10 episodes tend to be just right for Netflix-style storytelling, and certainly make binge-watching possible, according to Netsflixlife.
