YouTube's free-to-watch movies

While you can rent or buy movies on YouTube, there are more than 300 titles that you can watch for free. They're all labeled as Free with Ads.

The collection of free movies looks a bit like what you might find in a bin of old DVDs at a garage sale. You won't find any new releases and or any sense of organizational structure, but there are a few gems.

A free movie on YouTube is a great alternative for those times when you can’t find something to watch on Netflix, whose catalog is geared more toward TV shows than movies. You can find YouTube’s Free to Watch movies here, or you can navigate to it by clicking the menu button in the top-left of YouTube’s homepage and choosing Movies & Shows. Scroll past the rentals in the Recommended for you and New releases categories and click Free to Watch.

YouTube’s collection of free movies is devoid of new releases and littered with terrible titles (the Pauly Shore vehicle Bio-Dome, to name one), but there are some gems, as reported by Techskylight.

YouTube Movies

Many times you searched YouTube for full Movies but you always got very short-length videos in YouTube Results. So, if you want to watch full-length videos on YouTube then you need to shift to YouTube Movies, cited Techgyd.

YouTube Movies let you watch free full length movies of HD Quality. You are also having a lot of YouTube features like “Watch Later”, “Add to Playlist”, “Changing Quality”, “Show Captions” etc.

Monsters

Gareth Edwards is the man that directed the likes of Godzilla and the massive, and indeed first Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but before both of those he made a very low-budget sci-fi movie named Monsters which is an absolute must for genre fans. T the film sees an American journalist named Andrew Kaulder (Scoot McNairy) tasked with shepherding his employer’s daughter across a Mexican ‘infected zone’ all of the way to the United States. Residing in said zone are the ‘monsters’ of the title, creatures intent on feeding on whoever gets in their way. Shot on a micro-budget compared to similar pieces, Edwards’ debut is a masterclass in modern low budget filmmaking and needs to be seen.

The Color of Money

Walter Tevis is having a bit of a renaissance with the breakout success of The Queen's Gambit Netflix series, which makes this the perfect time to pick up another of his adaptations.

Martin Scorsese's The Color of Money is a "25 years later" sequel to The Hustler, with Paul Newman reprising his role, but the film stands on its own. Newman plays Fast Eddie, a former pool hall hustler who starts mentoring Vincent (Tom Cruise), an up-and-coming player.

There's no way to do a belated sequel and please everybody, even if you're Martin Scorsese, but this is still the film that finally got Paul Newman his well-deserved Best Actor win at the Oscars. The cast is the strongest selling point here: Sheila Benson, writing for the Los Angeles Times, describes the core players as "an electrifying unholy trio." Add in the great match scored to "Werewolves of London" and the off-the-wall fact about how this movie is how the video game Doom got its name? You've got a must-watch.

Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey

With a third movie on the way, you may want to revisit the middle film in the legendary ‘Bill & Ted’ trilogy, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. Released two years after the release of the original film, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, ‘Bogus Journey’ sees Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) take on themselves – well, android equivalents – who have been sent from the future to take them out. Featuring a cast that includes Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), William Sadler as the grim reaper and a returning George Carlin, ‘Bogus Journey’ is great fun and indeed one to return to before we see Bill & Ted Face The Music in cinemas next summer.

If animation is more your thing then check out legendary animator Don Bluth’s superb 1990 feature about a dog who comes back to earth from heaven and befriends a child called Charlie, a unique little girl who can talk to the animals. The film features the voices of late Hollywood legend Burt Reynolds and Dom Deloise and remains a family favourite nearly thirty years on from its original release.

The Cutting Edge

Sometimes cult classics are weird, challenging movies that could never have found a mainstream audience. And sometimes they're adorably cheesy rom-com sports movies. We don't make the rules; we just watch the movies. And we can definitely get behind The Cutting Edge, the endearing early '90s movie about a prima donna figure skater (Moira Kelly) and the former ice hockey star (D.B. Sweeney) who becomes her new skating partner.

The movie has plenty of loyal fans who perfectly sum up its sunny appeal. Writing for Decider, Josh Sorokach says, "At its core, The Cutting Edge is an endlessly rewatchable, immensely enjoyable film that not only understands but embraces the fact that rom-coms are supposed to be fun... the film's ideal rating in a fair and just world [would be]: 100% followed by eight exclamation marks, four hockey pucks, the thumbs-up icon, and a smiley face with sunglasses emoji." Fansided agrees: The movie is just plain irresistible and "like a fine wine ... [it] has gotten better with age." Whether it's an old favorite or whether you're watching it for the first time, it's almost guaranteed to turn a bad day around.
