Liverpool will be aiming to kick off the new EPL campaign in style when they take on newcomers Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday. The Reds begin the chase for the title without Sadio Mane, who joined Bayern Munich in the summer, but his replacement Darwin Nunez is likely to play an important role in Jurgen Klopp’s team in the upcoming season. Since the club chiefs managed to keep hold of top scorer Mohamed Salah, it is no wonder the visitors are seen as hot favourites to win the opener.

Back last year in the antechamber of the elite of English football, Fulham won the title of champion in the Championship by finishing leader of the classification with 90 points gleaned during the 46 days disputed. Also, the London club is making its comeback in the Premier League, just one year after being relegated. The objective, for the Cottagers, will therefore be to settle in a slightly more permanent way in this championship and avoid taking the elevator back in the other direction. This summer, the partners of former Guingamp native Anthony Knockaert had some success against Nice 0-2 and Estoril 1-3 but they also showed some weakness against Benfica 1-5. They will then be opposed to Villarreal during a final general rehearsal before the resumption. Liverpool, for their part, have not been rewarded for their excellent season achieved last year.

Imperial in the league, the Mersey club was only able to take 2nd place in the standings, despite having a rather extraordinary record for a runner-up with 92 points taken in 38 days. At the same time, the Reds were also beaten in the Champions League final by Real Madrid 1-0 despite pretty much dominating the game throughout the encounter. Revengeful, the men of Jurgen Klopp, crowned for the last time in 2019-2020, would like to experience the joys of a league title again. Largely beaten at the start of their friendly campaign by Manchester United 4-0, they regained some confidence by winning against Crystal Palace 2-0 and Leipzig 0-5. They will then face Salzburg, Manchester City in the Community Schield and finally Strasbourg in a friendly match.

Fulham let a few elements go during the summer transfer window. This is particularly the case of the former Niçois Serri (Hull City), the substitute defender Hector (free) and the former Marseille and Reims midfielder Zambo Anguissa who has definitively joined Naples. Very interesting last year, Portuguese midfielder Fabio Carvalho (10 goals, 8 assists) was transferred to Liverpool. Impressive at the forefront of the Cottagers attack last year, Serbian striker Mitrovic scored 43 goals in 44 games. Liverpool, for their part, did not retain their unfortunate substitute goalkeeper Karius (free), the former Lille Origi (AC Milan), promising full-back Williams (Nottingham Forrest) and winger Minamino (Monaco).

For his part, the formidable Sadio Mané, author of 16 goals last year with the Reds in the Premier League, wanted to join Bayern Munich this summer. To compensate for this big start, striker Darwin Nunez arrived from Anfield. He scored 26 league goals with Benfica last season.

Highlighted Player (Tom Cairney)

Tom Cairney is a professional footballer who plays for Fulham. His main position is central midfielder, but he plays as an attacking midfielder and a right midfielder as well. The left-footed player was born in Nottingham, England on 20 January, 1991 and he started his youth career at Leeds United.

In 2007 he moved to Hull City and he was named Hull’s Young Player of the Year for the 2008/2009 campaign. After making 70 league appearances for the Tigers he joined Blackburn Rovers on 1 August, 2013 on loan and on 2 January, 2014 he signed a permanent deal with the Riversiders. At the end of the 2014/2015 Championship campaign he joined Fulham.

Tom Cairney’s father is Scottish and, as a result, the Fulham footballer decided to represent Scotland on the international stage. Cairney has 2 caps for Scotland U-21 and he made 6 appearances for Scotland U-21 team. It has to be noted that he suffered a serious injury in August 2012. The injury forced him to be out of contention for over three months.

Highlighted Team (Liverpool)

Founded back in 1892, Liverpool are one of England’s and world’s most famous clubs. The Reds hold a high-profile rivalry with Everton and there have always been fireworks when the two teams take on each other in the Merseyside derby.

The Reds welcome their opponents at Anfield and it has to be noted that they have already won 18 first division trophies. Liverpool were on the verge of lifting the 2014/2015 Premier League trophy, but Steven Gerrard slipped in the decider against Chelsea and left the Reds without a title.

Liverpool won one of their last Champions League trophy's in 2005, with the team coming from three goals behind to beat Milan in a historic clash in Istanbul. The Reds have clinched six European Cups and it is no surprise they are regarded as one of the greatest European clubs.

The likes of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Paul Ince, Ian Rush, Graeme Souness, Sami Hyypia and Luis Suarez are some of the most notable footballers to have represented the club over the years. The club’s anthem is You’ll Never Walk Alone and their shirt colour is red.

Fulham vs Liverpool Predictions

Cottagers show some fight

Having been written off as relegation certainties in the early exchanges of the new Premier League season, Fulham have been showing more appetite for the fight in recent weeks, and while results have still been disappointing, performances have improved.

Scott Parker’s Cottagers went toe-to-toe with Everton in an eventual 3-2 loss to the Toffees in London on November 22, before a superb performance saw Fulham carve out a 2-1 victory at high flying Leicester shortly after.

The Premier League new boys fell to a 2-0 reverse at Manchester City in their last outing, though Fulham’s more competitive displays of late have raised spirits at the club, and strengthened hopes that they can avoid the drop.

Liverpool’s warning shot

Defending champions Liverpool have started to click fully into gear in recent weeks, and the Reds’ 4-0 demolition job on Wolves at Anfield last week felt like a major statement of intent.

With their Champions League group topped and an unbeaten seven-match run in the Premier League providing momentum, Liverpool look ready to attack the frenetic festive football period, and a victory at Fulham on Sunday could return the Reds to the division’s summit.

Back Liverpool’s goal-scorers to shine

With eight goals in their last three Premier League outings, Liverpool have finally started to look the part of late, and the relentless Reds look capable of cutting loose against a vastly inferior Fulham outfit on Sunday.

The return of assist hungry Trent Alexander-Arnold to the fold should open up new supply lines for in-form pair Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, while the increasingly influential Diogo Jota should also profit.

Only West Brom (23) have conceded more goals this season than Fulham (21), and against a Liverpool (15.8) team that are averaging more attempts per game than any other team in the Premier League bar Man City (15.9), we expect the Cottagers to struggle.

It’s also worth noting, that Scott Parker’s side have shipped three or more goals in three of their five home matches this term, and we envisage the hosts suffering again against one of the league’s most devastating frontlines.

With the match result markets best avoided for what looks a one-sided affair, backing Liverpool to score over 2.5 team goals looks much more appealing at the prices quoted, while our correct score prediction tips the Reds to run out 3-1 winners.

Liverpool’s defensive injury issues have been well documented, and having kept just two clean sheets in their last nine Premier League fixtures, we think an improving Fulham team can notch a consolation.

If you’re in the market for an anytime goalscorer for Sunday, then prolific Egyptian Mohamed Salah fits the bill. The winger should be bursting with confidence after he became Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer in the Champions League in mid-week, and the 28-year-old looks a solid bet to add to his nine-goal haul in the Premier League against Fulham.

Tip Reasoning

Fulham have become renowned for playing attractive, attacking football, so it comes as a surprise to see that 13 of their previous 13 top-flight home games have served up no more than three goals. Strangely enough, the figures are identical for Liverpool on their Premier League travels during the same period, so don’t expect four goals plus.

Fulham vs Liverpool: Betting tips

Fulham couldnt really ask for much more of a true awakening on their return to the Premier League here with the visit of runners up Liverpool. With players in and out at Liverpool they will want to hit the ground running so I am going for Liverpool to win -1 goal handicap.

Liverpool to win/Total over 1.5 Liverpool believe they can once more take the EPL crown from after City has denied them the crown. So Liverpool will be wanting to start the league in a strong fashion, according to Bettingexpert.

Early predicted Liverpool lineup vs Fulham

Defence

Change number one is the most obvious one – Alisson Becker for Adrián. Klopp has essentially confirmed this already, saying that the Brazilian will be fit to face Fulham.

Other than that, we think Ibrahima Konaté might get a game here over Joel Matip. Our thinking there really just comes down to the amount of possession Liverpool will want. We seem them pressing very, very high even away from home and that could mean opting for the quicker centre-back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are certainties, of course.

Midfield

Fabinho and Thiago feel like certainties for this one, too. We’re predicting two starts there, then, and the only question is whether Jordan Henderson keeps his place.

We think he will as Klopp will likely want the Liverpool captain starting the opener. There is a chance, however, that the boss puts a more attacking midfielder like Harvey Elliott into the fray here – maybe even Fabio Carvalho, given how well he knows the opponents.

It’s worth noting that Klopp praised Naby Keita’s cameo on Sunday, too. We still think he’ll go with Henderson but this one feels a little up in the air just now.

Attack

Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz will be in there, especially as Diogo Jota remains out. That just leaves the middle and we’re predicting our third change there.

Darwin Nunez brought so much when he came on against City that we think Klopp will ride that momentum. Throw him in from the start, see what he can do, and maybe he can use the confidence to integrate rapidly into this Liverpool side.

Of course, no one should be surprised if Roberto Firmino retains his place but Nunez’s 30-minute display at the King Power may just earn him a place.
