Far Cry 6 - Release date, Location, & Everything else you need to know - top most popular games in 2021

Ubisoft’s upcoming title, Far Cry 6, is one of the most-awaited titles of 2021. It is the sixth main installment of the Far Cry series for Amazon Luna, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia, said Fossbytes. Far Cry 6 is an action-adventure first-person shooter game. Gameplay follows from previous Far Cry games, with players using makeshift weapons, vehicles, and hiring Amigos, the new "Fangs for Hire" system, to topple the tyrannical regime.

What is Far Cry game series?

Far Cry is a franchise of first-person shooter games, all of which have been published by Ubisoft. The first game, Far Cry, was developed by Crytek to premiere their CryEngine software, and released in March 2004. Subsequently, Ubisoft obtained the rights to the franchise and the bulk of the development is handled by Ubisoft Montreal with assistance from other Ubisoft satellite studios. The following games in the series have used a Ubisoft-modified version of the CryEngine, the Dunia Engine, allowing for open-world gameplay. There have been five main games in the series, along with three standalone expansions; the first game, initially developed for Microsoft Windows, also saw a number of ports to video game consoles.

The Far Cry games, due to the history of their development, do not have any significant shared narrative elements but instead share a theme of placing the player in a wilderness environment where they must help fight against one or more despots that control the region as well as surviving against wild animals that roam the open spaces. The Far Cry games feature a robust single-player campaign with later titles offering co-operative campaign support. The games also offer competitive multiplayer options and the ability for users to edit the games' maps for these matches.

The Far Cry games have generally been well-received and are considered commercial successes. Ubisoft reports that through 2014, lifetime sales of the Far Cry franchise has exceeded 20 million units.

Far Cry 6 trailer

In August 2020, Ubisoft Montreal released the trailer for Far Cry 6, and everyone in the gaming community lost their mind. While no gameplay of Far Cry 6 has been shown just yet, the reveal trailer for the game is a great mood piece that sets the stage for what's to come. In the trailer, we see Presidente Anton Castillo speaking to his son about the necessity of harsh rulership within Yara. This exposition is set against the backdrop of Yara in turmoil, with the country's rebel citizens in conflict with Castillo's military. It shows off a bleak situation, and it'll be interesting to see how the final game will flesh the narrative and key villain, who may have more ambitious plans for rulership than it may initially appear.

Background story

Though previous entries in the Far Cry series have had some loose connections, Far Cry 6 is an entirely standalone game that doesn't have many ties to the previous games. This is likely for the best, considering Far Cry 5 and its spin-off New Dawn unexpectedly brought the series into the post-apocalyptic setting. Far Cry 6 takes place in the present, with the modern world still intact. However, this game's setting is on the island of Yara, a country isolated from the rest of the world due to economic sanctions, as the developers explained in a talk with GameSpot shortly after the reveal Playing as a native of Yara who joins the rebel forces, you'll make your way through the island dismantling the country's systems of power before facing off against Presidente Anton Castillo, who's played by Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian actor Giancarlo Esposito, according to Gamespot.

Far Cry 6 Release date & Platform

Far Cry 6 will release later in 2021, but, right now, there is no exact information on Far Cry 6 release date. However, according to a leaked Microsoft listing, the new Far cry 6 release date might be May 25, 2021. Initially, Ubisoft planned to release the game on February 18, 2020; however, because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the studio had to push back the release date.

Like most latest titles, Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6 will release for both last and current-gen consoles, i.e., Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Moreover, the FPS title will be available for PC and Google Stadia as well.

Far Cry 6 Multiplayer: Is it co-op?

Far Cry 6 will have co-op play, allowing players to join up and explore the world together. While the developers haven't spoken to the exact scope of the next game's co-op component, we do know that it is similar to previous games. In co-op, you and your friends can take on side-missions and in-world activities, but story missions are left as solo only engagements. Location & Setting

As suggested in the trailer, Far Cry 6’s events occur in the modern-world of Yara, a fictional island based on Cuba. Under the dictatorship of Anton Castillo, Yara is isolated from the rest of the world. The entire country of Yara is in a state of chaos as Castillo is using military force to suppress citizen’s voices standing up against his rule. In that chaotic world, you play as Dani Rojas, who has to find a way to demolish Castillo’s dictatorship. The open-world of Far Cry 6 will present players will numerous dangerous challenges. So, you will have to survive the hurdles and make your way to the top to bring down Castillo, who is training his son Diego to follow in the same footsteps.

How to Pre-order?

Right now, you can preorder Far Cry 6 on Amazon or through Ubisoft's online store. In standard fashion with the publisher, there are multiple versions of Far Cry 6 to preorder, including the Standard Edition, the Gold Edition, the Ultimate Edition, and the Collector's Edition--the latter of which adds in maps, stickers, and a model replica of the game's flamethrower.

What to expect in Far Cry 6?

From what's been shown and talked about so far, Far Cry 6 seems to be gearing itself up for a revolution, both literally and metaphorically. Already the game is showcasing many different firsts for the series: a non-outsider protagonist, potentially the first fully-fledged city in a Far Cry game, a secondary character to the antagonist who could have a surprising impact on the main villain, and the main villain himself who's basically an A-List actor at this point. The sixth Far Cry game has a lot going for it, especially during a time where Ubisoft is finally bouncing back from a rough year. As suggested by Gamerant, Far Cry 6's innovations could carry that momentum even further.

The Protagonist/Antagonist character designs: Far Cry has infamously used the "fish out of water" archetype for its protagonists basically since the series began. With third-person cutscenes detached from the player's perspective, players may see more screen time of Anton and Diego's relationship throughout Far Cry 6. Diego could be a foil for Anton, or a loyal son following in his footsteps, as the game's narrative director describes Diego's loyalty as "riding the razor's edge."

Esperanza - Far Cry's first major city: Esperanza, the capital city within the fictional setting of Yara, is also a major first for Far Cry. The revolution is meant to progressively make its way towards Esperanza as the freedom fighters that players fight alongside gain more ground. Presumably, players will eventually find themselves frequenting Esperanza often, whether it's for supplies or whatever mission they need to complete there. Typically there are a few shops and interactions to be had in a Far Cry hub city/town, something that Far Cry 5 did a little better but still felt empty. With Esperanza's much grander scale, ideally, there will be more things to do there as well other than buying ammo/armor, picking up a quest, and leaving immediately thereafter.
