Having a baby in December can be pretty chaotic. While everyone is shopping for gifts, decorating trees, and being invited to parties left and right, here you are waiting for a human being to pop out of you. In the US, this month is actually the rarest time for birthdays, with December 24 and 25 being the rarest of all, since inductions and C-sections are less likely to be scheduled on the holidays.

Growing up, babies born in this month may have to cope with the holidays overshadowing their future birthdays, but they should not feel too bad — according to research and studies, December babies are pretty lucky (and their parents, too!).

Reasons babies born in December rock

1. They're rare

December babies are rare, particularly if they were born Dec. 24 or Dec. 25, which are the rarest of all birthdays.

2. They are less irritable

A study presented at the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology asked 366 university students about their temperaments. The findings were that those born in summer tended to be moody. But the winter-born were steady. In particular, December-born showed fewer temper tantrums.

Maybe because they had all that practice feigning good manners with Christmas-wrapped birthday presents, hmmm?

3. They aren't as likely to contract major diseases

If this doesn't give you bragging rights for your December-born baby, I don't know what will.

Researchers at the Columbia University Department of Medicine looked at records for 1.75 million patients born between 1900 and 2000 who were treated at the medical center. They looked at 1,668 diseases and birth months and other factors, such as exercise and diet. Check out the handy chart from the Washington Post showing how December babies aren't likely to contract most major diseases.

4. They are more likely to live to 100

Every parent just wants to outlive their child. The chances are greater with a December-born baby.

Babies born the last month of the year are more likely to live the longest. The Journal of Aging Research said a German study found that the December-born have a "significantly higher risk of surviving up to age 105-plus compared to the June-born."

5. Boys are more likely to be left-handed

Psychologists at the University of Vienna found boys born from October to February were more likely to be left-handed than those born in other months. The cause is still being researched. But left-handedness is rare, again making December babies special.

6. It's OK that they're among the youngest in their class

One anxiety among parents is that when a December-born child starts school, he or she would be the youngest in the class and that will hurt the child socially and academically. Studies say otherwise. Two economists found that more mature students didn't have the edge in kindergarten or later in middle school. Other studies also showed that in time, it's the younger "strivers" who have the edge in the long run, as this New Yorker story details.

December babies can be creative, intelligent, and hardworking.

If you’re a big believer in astrological signs, then you’d be happy to know that babies born in December have some pretty awesome key traits. Fascinating facts about people born in December

There are some truly special things about babies born in December – in fact, they are quite special, starting from birth.

1. They live for a long, long time

A study published in the Journal of Aging Research reports that people born in December are more likely to live to 105 — or even longer. Their birthdays may be late in the year, but they have a lot of them!

2. They do better in school

Some people think it's a disadvantage to be one of the youngest kids in the class, but studies show that, by the time they graduate, younger students outperform older peers in the same grade.

3. They are morning people

Perhaps it has something to do with being born in a month where it gets dark at 4 p.m., but research has found that people born in December are more likely to enjoy going to bed early and waking up early. December-borns are getting stuff done while the rest of us are still getting our coffee.

4. They may have fewer temper tantrums

Exciting news for the toddler years! Researchers found that babies born in December tend to have fewer tantrums throughout their childhoods and later lives than babies born during any other time of the year. A researcher at the Semmelweis University in Budapest surveyed 366 students to find out about their moods and temperaments. It turns out that those born in December appeared to have the most even-keeled dispositions of all.

5. December babies have three birthstones

In addition to having multiple birth flowers, babies born in December have three gorgeous stones to choose from; the zircon, tanzanite, and turquoise. Each of these stones is a beautiful shade of blues, but turquoise is especially steeped in meaning. Turquoise is thought of as a love charm and is believed to bring its wearer protection and luck, as well as good fortune and a relaxed mind…all things that will undoubtedly benefit your December baby!

6. Dentistry could be in their future

Researchers in the U.K. reported in the Journal of Family Health that they found a statistical link between birth months and certain professions. According to that study, December-borns were more likely to become dentists. Smile!

7. December babies have two flowers

Narcissus, or paperwhites, are one of the first flowers of spring and therefore represent rebirth and renewal. Victorians used to think of paperwhites as being the flower for egoists (they are named after Narcissus, after all). However, according to Chinese legend, this flower traditionally represents wealth and prosperity. Holly is thought of as a Christmas flower. The thorny leaves represent the crown of thorns and the bright red berries represent the blood of Christ in the Christian faith.

8. They were born in the same month of talented A-list celebrities

There's a big group of actors and musicians who were also born in December, including Brad Pitt, Taylor Swift, Denzel Washington, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Notable journalists and talk show hosts born in December are Diane Sawyer, Ryan Seacrest, and Meredith Vieira.

9. They are financially-oriented

Financial quality is incredibly important to them. They work in order to afford the very cost of their living. They set their minds that they must spend their hard-earned money to something worth-spending. Hence, don’t be shocked if these people won’t waste their cash to something that’s not helpful or beneficial to them.

10. They love all things blue

At least when it comes to jewels. Their birthstones cover a wide range of bright blue shades, including turquoise, tanzanite, and topaz.
