In culture, while beautiful and picturesque, the culture category's Procida is known for its active creative community and has been dubbed the "Italian capital of culture."
It includes American destinations like Atlanta and Maryland's Eastern Shore, along with far-off locations like the western Pacific island Palau and Japan's second-largest island Hokkaido.

Some of the journeys emphasize tradition, like China's ancient tea mountains, while others, like Canada's ancient Nepisiguit Mi'gmaq Trail, are more suitable for rugged adventures.
In culture, Procida, a little island off the coast of Naples, is an Italian Capital of Culture for 2022, while London's legendary music hub Tin Pan Alley has had a recent resurgence, with the opening of three new music venues.
For Sustainability, National Geographic's picks include Ecuador's Yasuni National Park, a biosphere reserve in the Amazon which is currently under threat -- just last week parts of the forest were cleared for an oil road and pipelines.

The ancient waters of Lake Baikal, known as Russia's "Sacred Sea," are bigger than all the Great Lakes of North American combined, and it makes up close to a quarter of our planet's freshwater reserves.
Adventure seekers are recommended to try the new 420-kilometer-long La Seine à Vélo bike route which runs from Paris to the Normandy sea. Or if hiking is more your thing, there's the 147-kilometer-long Sentier Nepisiguit Mi'gmaq wilderness trail in New Brunswick, Canada. It follows the Nepisiguit River from Daly Point's Nature Reserve to Mount Carleton Provincial Park.
Among NatGeo's adventure selections is Colorado's Arapahoe Basin, where visitors can enjoy North America's highest via ferrata at 12,999 feet above sea level. And in keeping its annual list fresh, the magazine included France's new Seine River Bike Trail, a 260-mile-long route that connects Paris to the sea.

For family trips with loved ones, National Geographic's picks include Turkey's sweeping southwest coastline, a lesser known Mediterranean delight which was known in ancient times as Lycia. Sailing is the perfect way to explore its secluded bays and coves.
Drive the Great Ocean Road - Victoria, AustraliaGreen shoots of regeneration are popping up across Australia, where the 2019-2020 bushfires burned some 72,000 square miles of land. The disasters led to the deaths of nearly three dozen people and more than a billion animals.
Playing its own role in these rejuvenation efforts, Wildlife Wonders, in Victoria’s Otways region, is a new wildlife sanctuary tucked away off the Great Ocean Road amid lush ancient forest and waterfalls. It’s the brainchild of Brian Massey, the landscape designer of New Zealand’s Hobbiton movie set tours. Massey, along with botanists, scientists, zoologists, and environmental specialists, has crafted a sinuous wooden path that winds through the refuge and blends seamlessly into the landscape. |
