The Giallorossi recovered from a poor first half of the season to finish sixth, just one point behind city rivals Lazio.
The real success for Roma came in Europe though, as they finally ended their wait for a major European trophy, beating Feyenoord 1-0 in the final of the inaugural UEFA Conference League.

AS Roma will play host to Napoli on the 23rd of August, 2022. They will then play the reverse fixture at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on the 29th of January, 2023.
Mourinho has always had a reputation of managing the best squads in club football and giving his squads an identity built around winning titles.
The Portuguese was given a new challenge in helping Roma build back their image and he has managed to do just that in his first season with the club.
Roma may have finished just a point higher than last season under Fonseca, but there is renewed ambition at the club both on and off the field and Mourinho has been at the centre of it all.
The Giallorossi won their first European trophy in club history under Mourinho’s leadership and he will need to do even more in the upcoming season for them to progress further in Serie A and the Europa League.
AS Roma: Transfer Business
Roma have had a statement transfer window so far as numerous big-name signings have been brought in without letting any star players go, which has been a common trend in the past.
After numerous reports of Paulo Dybala being expected to join Inter Milan, the Argentine decided to make the switch to the Italian capital after becoming impatient with the Nerazzurri management.
The 28-year-old arrives on a free transfer from Juventus and will be eager to prove himself after struggling to find consistency in recent seasons.
Roma added some much-needed depth by bringing in Lille right-back Zeki Celik for €7 million and signing Manchester United free agent Nemanja Matić, who has worked with Mourinho previously at Chelsea and Old Trafford.
Goalkeeping duo Pau López and Robin Olsen have both been sold and replaced by promising Benfica goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who will be behind Rui Patrício in the pecking order.
Cengiz Ünder and Alessandro Florenzi made their loan moves to Marseille and AC Milan permanent while Henrikh Mkhitaryan left on a free transfer to join Inter.
Georginio Wijnaldum is expected to join from Paris Saint Germain on a loan-to-buy deal and Andrea Belotti will sign a three-year deal after leaving Torino this summer.

Tammy Abraham arrived from Stamford Bridge for £34m last season and has become Roma’s most important player within the space of a season.
The 24-year-old striker amassed 27 goals and five assists across 53 matches last season and finished joint-third in the Serie A scoring race with 17 goals.
He played an integral part in Roma’s Conference League campaign and has since been linked with a potential move back to the Premier League.
Roma will do everything in their power to keep Abraham for as long as they can but the Englishman has refused to rule out an eventual return to his home country.
Considering the upgrades made in Roma’s attack this offseason, Abraham is expected to build on the success from his debut season and score at least 30 goals across all competitions this season.
Prediction
Mourinho did an incredible job to win the Conference League last season and help the club reach the Europa League but expectations will be even higher this year.
Roma look to be one of the most improved sides in Serie A this summer and should focus primarily on securing Champions League football for the following campaign.
Mourinho’s desire to win could be a double-edged blade as he will surely try to progress as far as possible in the Europa League and doing so could negatively impact their domestic form as we have seen with numerous teams in the past.
Needless to say that Roma are one of the most exciting teams to keep an eye on this season and we expect them to end their soon-to-be four-year drought of Champions League football.
Predicted line-up:
(3-4-2-1) Rui Patricio; Gianluca Mancini, Chris Smalling, Roger Ibanez; Zeki Celik, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Nemanja Matic, Leonardo Spinazzola; Paulo Dybala, Nicolo Zaniolo; Tammy Abraham
Rui Patricio is expected to keep his place as starting keeper for Roma after playing every league game last season but the signing of 22-year-old Mile Svilar from Benfica offers depth and he is likely to be the number two for Mourinho this season. A back three of Gianluca Mancini, Chris Smalling and Roger Ibanez is likely to take shape, whilst the likes of Marash Kumbulla and Matias Vina offer depth choices at center-back.
Vina was deployed at left wing-back regularly last season but Leonardo Spinazzola is likely to be the preferred starter, despite missing the majority of last season after tearing his Achilles tendon at the European Championship’s for Italy last summer. Zeki Celik could take over from Rick Karsdorp at right wing-back but both present very good options here.
Lorenzo Pellegrini will continue to run the show in the middle of midfield – the Italian scored nine goals and assisted five in Serie A last season. The position next to him, however, is a little more up for grabs. Nemanja Matic and Bryan Cristante offer a more solid defensive approach to their game and compliment Pellegrini well. However, Wijnaldum also offers an extra selection headache for Mourinho, leaving him with plenty of options here.
Paulo Dybala and Nicoló Zaniolo are likely to be the first-choice starters in attacking midfield and both offer creativity, whilst Dybala adds goals to the attack. Zaniolo scored just two goals and assisted two in Serie A last term and he will be looking to step up this season. Stephan El Shaarawy, Felix Afena-Gyan and Eldor Shomurodov all offer depth options here but are seen more as wingers. Abraham will lead the line once more this season but there are options elsewhere due to the versatility of the squad, with the likes of Dybala, Shomurodov and Afena-Gyan all capable of leading t
