Latest Statement of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz about traveling to Cancún

TEXAS senator Ted Cruz has been the subject of many strange questions.

As millions of Texans continued to suffer in subfreezing temperatures without power and water, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz traveled with his family to sunny Cancún, Mexico on Wednesday.

“This has been an infuriating week for Texans. The greatest state in the greatest country in the world has been without power," the senator said in a Thursday afternoon statement. "We have food lines, gas lines and people sleeping at the neighbors’ houses. Our homes are freezing and our lights are out. Like millions of Texans, our family lost heat and power too."

“With school canceled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends," he added. "Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon. My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas. We want our power back, our water on and our homes warm. My team and I will continue using all our resources to keep Texans informed and safe.”

NBC News subsequently reported that Cruz booked his return ticket early in the morning on Thursday. The New York Times reported that Cruz's wife, Heidi Cruz, organized an impromptu trip that was to last until Sunday.

Nationality of Ted Cruz - Is Ted Cruz Canadian and where was he born?

No - not technically. However, Cruz was born in Calgary, Canada, in 1970.

He is considered a US citizen because of his mother and having her American citizenship at birth.

His family decided to live in Canada while his father was working for the Canadian oil industry at the time, when Cruz was a baby.

They moved to America when he was four.

He grew up in Texas and later attended Princeton University and Harvard Law School.

His political rivals have in the past used his upbringing in Canada against him in public.

Donald Trump called him "an anchor baby in Canada" back in 2016.

Political Career of Ted Cruz

The conservative earned a Bachelor's degree from Princeton University, and went on to graduate from Harvard Law school. Additionally while at Harvard, he founded the Harvard Latino Law Review.

Cruz worked for sometime as an attorney post graduation, and eventually served as an advisor on George W. Bush's 2000 Presidential campaign.

When did he become a US Senator?

Cruz was barely a blip in the opinion polls when he joined the race for the U.S. Senate in 2012. That's not surprising since he had never sought elected office before, and that among the Republicans who'd get in the race was the three-term lieutenant governor of Texas, a former college football star who became a well-known sports analyst and the ex-mayor of one of Texas' largest cities.

He was elected to the US Senate in 2012 and began his first term representing Texas in 2013. After taking office, he became a leader of the conservative movement in Congress.

If Cruz was known at all, it was probably for his roles as Texas solicitor general, which is the appointed office under the Texas attorney general who argues cases in court. Cruz got more than a few opportunities to do just that before the highest court in the land.

And he worked the conservative tea party-inspired grassroots who are reliable voters in Republican primary and runoff elections.

In 2018, Cruz kept his seat against Beto O’Rourke in 2018 by 220,000 votes - meaning he will stay as Senator until 2024.

Ted Cruz's hair

Cruz arrived at the Capitol Building Friday to observe-cipate (observe while somehow also actively participating) in another day of former President Donald Trump's ongoing second impeachment trial. Television viewers were quick to notice that Cruz's haircut had suddenly come to take the shape of a once-promising Triple-A.
