Noah Green’s Background
Green was a 25-year-old man originally from Indiana, according to MSNBC. At some point, he moved to Norfolk, Virginia, but it is not clear when. However, a bio on the Christopher Newport University website says that Greene is originally Fairlea, West Virginia. The car used in the attack had Virginia license plates, but it is not clear if it belonged to Green or someone else.
Bio
Green played as a defensive back for the university's football team. The bio also lists his hometown as Covington, Virginia. According to the website, he is the son of Mazie and Newotn Green and has seven sisters and two brothers. He was reportedly majoring in business at the university.
NBC journalist Tom Winter was one of the first to name Green publicly. In a tweet, he said, "the suspect is a follower of the Nation of Islam, law enforcement officials say. Recent social media posts indicate he was unemployed and dealing with several personal issues."
Green's Facebook page is reportedly filled with multiple references to the Nation of Islam. In one, he shared a “certificate of completion” from the Nation of Islam. According to the certificate, he was awarded it for “recognition of your sacrifice in making your word bond and completing your 2021 saviors’ day gift in the amount of $1,085.” Another post said he was dealing with many challenges, which he called “some of the biggest, unimaginable tests.” He also called himself Noah X, after his icon Malcolm X. Green also described himself as a “Follower of Farrakhan”, in reference to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
At the time of the attack, Green was looking for guidance after losing his job. Associated Press reported that as of now, Green does not seem to be linked to the January 6 insurrection. Not much else is known about Green at this time. We will update this story when we hear more.
Noah’s CNU biography mentioned that the person in history he’d most like to visit is Malcom X.
Robert Contee, acting chief of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, said that his department would take over the investigation. “It does not appear to be terrorism-related,” Contee said.”
Below is part of one of Green’s Facebook posts from March 17. I haven’t had much to lean on the past few months, I’ve been faced with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, and diminution of fruit. My faith is one of the only things that has been able to carry me through these times and my faith is centered on the belief of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan as Jesus, the Messiah, the final divine reminder in our midst. I consider him my spiritual father. Without his guidance, his word, and his teachings that I’ve picked up on along the way, I would’ve been unable to continue. So, I wanted to give a personal testimony for the man whose accomplished such a great mission for the liberation of us all under the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, brought forth by Allah, in the person of Master Fard Muhammad. Noah Green Facebook post dated March 17 at 1:51 AM Below is the complete text of another one of Green’s posts from March 17. In addition to my last post... I encourage everyone to study Revelations, study the signs of end times, study who the beast is, study who the anti-Christ is, study who the false prophet is, and study the created images during those times. The Minister is here to save me and the rest of humanity, even if it means facing death. Be willing to deny yourself and follow him, pick up your cross. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad (his teacher, the exalted Christ) is alive in power (I bear witness). Study the Minister, watch his lectures, study Elijah Muhammad, study the mother wheel (which is present here in America [I bear witness again]). We have a little time. Peace. Noah X |
The attack on Capitol Police Officers
Noah Green hit Capitol Police officers as he crashed into a barricade and ran at officers with a knife Friday.
The attack left a veteran U.S. Capitol Police officer dead and another hospitalized. Authorities shot Green, who died after being taken to an area hospital.
Investigators were digging into his background and examining whether he had any mental health history as they tried to discern a motive. They were working to obtain warrants to access his online accounts.
Capitol Police Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman said the suspect did not appear to have been on the police’s radar. But the attack underscored that the building and campus — and the officers charged with protecting them — remain potential targets for violence.
Noah’s motive
D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert J. Contee III said Green's attack did not "appear to be terrorism-related."
Contee said police are investigating to determine Green's motive. He said Green was not known to either D.C. Police or the USCP and was not previously considered a threat to lawmakers.
People who went to school with Green and played sports with him growing up described him as the average jock: athletic, popular, even working at a gym in college.
The violence on Friday, they say, was jarring compared to the person they knew, but Green's recent social media activity seemed to offer clues that he'd changed.
