U.S Gas Price (June 7): More States Reach $5 A Gallon
|The national everage gas price in the U.S spike keeps getting worse.|
On June 7, more states in the US had gas prices above the $5 a gallon threshold. Although gas prices were expected to continue to climb, drivers in the US were surprised.
Unfortunately for drivers, prices could continue to climb with no end in sight. The factors that most influence gas prices – from demand to inventories and production – are lined up such that prices at the pump are likely to continue to rise.

The rise in the price of gas was the seventh consecutive increase. According to AA, the cost of a barrel of oil is nearing $120, nearly double from last August, as increased oil demand outpaces the tight global supply. Meanwhile, domestic gasoline demand rose: According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 700,000 bbl to 219 million bbl last week. Meanwhile, gasoline demand grew from 8.8 million b/d to 8.98 million b/d as drivers fueled up for Memorial Day weekend travel.
As a result, the national average for a gallon of gas surged 25 cents in one week to hit $4.86.
