For his two sons, a man in the USA had an even more unique idea: Winner and Loser. What happened to them? The two sons of Robert Lane were known as Winner and Loser. Loser Lane had a prosperous career with the NYPD while Winner Lane later turned to crime.

Winner and Loser

Even though Robert Lane already had five children with fairly common first names, Onlyfunfacts claims that he was troubled by the idea that a child's name could have an impact on their future. What kind of life might someone with a truly memorable name lead? He therefore made the decision to name his sixth child Winner in 1958.

The family was then residing in a public housing complex in the Harlem neighborhood of New York. Winner's third birthday saw the appearance of a new sibling. The eldest daughter responded that since they already had a "winner," why not also have a "loser" when the father asked her what name to give the child. And that is exactly what happened, despite the fact that Robert was not at all dissatisfied with his new child.

On the Wagner Projects' property, both individuals grew up. The neighborhood kids never made a big deal out of their names or teased them. Later, Loser remarked, "You don't know it's a bad name when you're a kid. Later on in school, everyone is familiar with you, but it is now normal.

The Life of Winner Lane

Winner Lane should have achieved a lot given his unique name. But it turned out that the exact opposite was true. Today, it is no longer possible to pinpoint the precise causes of this. In any case, he started acting out very young, as his criminal career started when he was just 19 years old and was detained for the first time in September 1977 for aggravated assault.

After breaking into a Long Island home five years later, he was finally found guilty. More than 30 additional crimes and offenses, including fare evasion, domestic abuse, trespassing, resisting arrest, and auto theft, were eventually committed after this.

After committing yet another car theft and receiving a three-year prison sentence, he committed yet another burglary as soon as he was released from prison in April 1999. He now lives on the streets of New York and occassionally stays in homeless shelters.

The Life of Loser Lane

Loser Lane received a scholarship for a prep school in Connecticut around the time his brother became immersed in the criminal scene. A prep school is a kind of high school that helps students get ready for college. For this, he enrolled at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, where he excelled academically and as a football player.

He joined the New York Police Department in January 1984 after graduating from college, in part because his mother had been so anxious to do so. But perhaps his older brother's poor example was also to blame.

He was open about having an unusual name at the new station, but his coworkers avoided using it and just referred to him as Lou. He had a prosperous career and was eventually promoted to detective and sergeant.

Separate ways

The two brothers hardly ever interact anymore. Winner will occasionally call Loser when he needs money once more, but Loser makes an effort to avoid contact as a man of the law. Winner and Loser are now distant from one another as a result.
