In the recently released QS World University Rankings, the UK and the EU account for half of the top 20 universities. Although the top universities in the UK and the EU have gained ground in the last year, the US still holds a commanding lead in the top 10. We can see that European universities are rising to the challenge of competing with their UK counterparts because two French universities are included in the top 10.

In the world, a lot of UK colleges and universities have STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs that are among the best. Many have long been at the pinnacle of their professions, inspiring students worldwide and showing up on the CVs of notable figures such as Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu and Indian independence icon Sarojini Naidu.

Here’s a brief rundown of the top-ranked universities in the UK and Europe today, according to QS.
