Romantic Cities in Canada - Photo: KnowInsiders.com

It could be the weather or the fact that you're stuck in an elevator. Or the instant, whether it was a passing glance, a missed train, or the time you accidentally put on the wrong coat.

However, sometimes the setting is what causes the sparks and passion to fly. A helping hand from Canada is available. Without further ado, here are the best places in the United States for a couple to get away on a romantic weekend.

What are the most romantic cities in Canada?

1. Fort McMurray, Alberta

Top 10 Romantic Cities in Canada for A Weekend Getaway

There is a lot more to Fort McMurray than its reputation as an Alberta Oil Sands city or for the devastating forest fires that forced the evacuation of the entire city in 2016.

Fort McMurray will keep you busy from sunrise to sunset, whether you prefer indoor entertainment at places like Points North Gallery, Aim High Park, or Mr. E's Solve-It Tutorium, or you prefer the great outdoors and nature with a stroll along Birchwood Trails or a round of golf at Miskanaw Golf Club.

AND when night falls, leave town to see the Northern Lights, the hypnotic light shows that appear in the northern skies at night, typically on clear evenings from October to March.

2. Toronto, Ontario (new)

Visit charming Niagara-on-the-Lake if you prefer your love affairs to be done in the old-fashioned manner. This elegant 19th-century village is just under two hours from Toronto and is ideal for strolling arm in arm past graceful Victorians and handsome brick manors lined with overflowing flower baskets. Eat out, watch a movie, and pedal between the 35 wineries while sipping the area's famous Icewine. Then unwind at a mansion full of antiques, perhaps the 1864 Prince of Wales in the center of town or the 17-acre Riverbend Inn & Vineyard with its view of the vines.

Romantic activities in Toronto include lounging on a rooftop, ice skating, taking a special someone to a play, etc. Take a stroll among flower-filled meadows, stop to gaze at the stars, see the adorable pandas at the Toronto Zoo, spend the day at a theme park, take a dinner cruise, or visit an art gallery.

3. Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (new)

The majority of the city's art galleries, including the Frozen Rock Studio, Down to Earth Gallery, and Gallery of the Midnight Sun, are situated in Old Town Yellowknife. But a trip here wouldn't be complete without stopping at The Wildcat Cafe, one of our favorite eateries in Yellowknife. The Wildcat Cafe may not appear to be much from the outside, but the interior is dripping with lore and history.

Make a reservation in advance because there might be a wait. Pick up a marker while you're at the Wildcat Cafe so you can sign your name on the walls. Or even better, find our business card! People who found it there have already called to tell us where they found it!

Some of Yellowknife's top eateries, including the Wildcat cafe, are located in Old Town. Also located in Old Town is the well-known neighborhood brewery, NWT Brewing. Ragged Ass Rd., for example. It's obvious that Yellowknife's rich history is still very much on display in this place! It's undoubtedly one of Canada's most incredible locations.

4. Bonnyville, Alberta

Between Cold Lake and St. Paul in eastern Alberta is the town of Bonnyville. The metropolitan office of Municipal District MD of Bonnyville No. 87 is located in Bonnyville. Father Bonnin, a priest of the Roman Catholic faith, is the source of the group's name. On Jessie Lake's northern shore is where Bonnyville is located. Birdwatchers visit the lake because it serves as an important gathering place for many migrating birds. Moose Lake and Muriel Lake are two additional nearby lakes.

The Centennial Center, an educational and recreational hub, was built by the town as an addition to the R. J. Lalonde Arena and the Bonnyville and District Agriplex during the celebration of Bonnyville's centennial year in 2007. As its cost exceeded the first gauge and required an assessment climb for the two residents of the town and the civil area, its development was somewhat dubious. The Bonnyville-Cold Lake neighborhood is where Bonnyville is located. Governmentally, Bonnyville is located within the appointed region of Lakeland, a recently reconfigured riding currently held by Conservative Party member Shannon Stubbs, who was first elected in 2015.

Taking a cooking class together is one of the romantic things to do in Bonnyville. While you are learning how to make the ideal scone, there will undoubtedly be some occasions to laugh together. While some aspects of cooking can be challenging, having fun with others is not one of them. Camp in your backyard and learn how to make a new favorite dish while having a great time. It's not necessary for kids to do this alone! Enjoy a nice glass of wine while roasting some marshmallows over a fire. Visit a brewery for a memorable date night that will result from both getting away from outside distractions and just spending time together. Support a neighborhood brewery and use it as the starting point for a memorable date night. After your visit, you can either take some excellent craft alcohol home with you or use it to start the rest of your evening.

5. North York, Ontario

Former city of North York (1979–1988) in southeast Ontario, Canada. It merged in 1998 with the borough of East York, the cities of Toronto, Scarborough, York, and Etobicoke, and the city of Toronto. The city of North York Township was established in 1979 after being created in 1922 from York Township. There was planned industrial and residential development after World War II. The York University campus, established in 1959, is located on 475 acres (192 hectares) of land in North York, which has more than 4,000 acres (1,620 hectares) of parks and open space. The early settlers' way of life is portrayed in the Black Creek Pioneer Village.

Have a picnic in Trinity Bellwoods Park, pick up something sweet at SOMA Chocolatemaker, watch the sunset from the CN Tower, take a twilight helicopter ride for two, play mini golf at Putting Edge, take a step back in time at Casa Loma, or go to Chester Hill Lookout as examples of romantic things to do in North York.

The city has something to offer almost year-round. In the spring, tulips will be in full bloom, creating a sea of color. In the summer, you can explore Ottawa's noteworthy attractions like Parliament Hill or find quiet moments in the midst of picturesque nature by rivers and lakes. With the biggest skating rink in the world located in downtown, the city transforms into a winter wonderland. With these top Ottawa date ideas, you can find love in the city.

7. Grande Prairie, Alberta

Grande Prairie, a relatively small city in Northwest Alberta, is located 456 kilometers (283 miles) northwest of Edmonton City. The Dane-zaa, Cree, and Iroquois peoples, who first inhabited the region, came into contact with European traders and began trading pelts and furs with them. A land rush that was in full swing by 1909 caused the city to expand significantly. As a result, Grande Prairie became a town by 1912. Since there is plenty of space for outdoor activities here, no matter what time of year it is, the area is well-liked by those who enjoy outdoor sports. Grande Prairie hosts a surprising number of festivals and events each year, though, if that's not your thing.

There are many ways to make your date in Grande Prairie special, whether you're celebrating a milestone or going on your first date. After a day of pampering at The Vine Luxury Spa, enjoy a special meal at the charming Acropolis Greek Restaurant and Pub. Catch the most recent performance at Revolution Place after that, and end the evening dancing at Shark Club to a live DJ. Or, if you'd like to try something a little different, you could go on a date that included a romantic stroll along one of the many nature trails at Muskoseepi Park, a brewery tour at GP Brewing Co., a meal at The Office, and an attempt to escape from a "locked" room at Trapped escape rooms. In Grande Prairie, you can find anything you and your significant other enjoy.

Enjoy a romantic meal at The Office Restaurant, surprise your special someone with tickets to see his or her preferred band at Revolution Place, join the Rotary Club's award-winning tour of Grande Prairie, drive a short distance to the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, and be amazed by all you see and learn, or float above the city in a hot air balloon with the one you love. These are just a few of the romantic things to do in Grande.

8. Burlington, Ontario

Visit the August First bakery first thing in the morning, pick up some of their delectable pastries or a breakfast sandwich, and then stroll a few blocks down to Perkins Pier for a lakeside picnic lunch.

You should take advantage of the outdoor activities in and around Burlington during the day. An afternoon well spent would be riding a bike along the Island Line Trail or Burlington Bike Path. Numerous beaches and other locations where you can swim or have a picnic are along the way. Lone Rock Point, a wooded peninsula that juts out into Lake Champlain, is another fantastic place to explore right off the bike path. There are some lovely, secluded picnic areas with breathtaking views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains perched on top of cliffs there.

Renting kayaks or stand-up paddleboards from North Beach is another fantastic option for couples exploring this area. You can paddle out and around the peninsula of Lone Rock from there.

If you're feeling particularly daring, you can drive to Snow Farm Vineyard and Winery on Lake Champlain's Grand Isle or bike the roughly 14 miles there. Pinot Noir and Riesling are just two of the wines the vineyard offers for tasting. On Thursday nights in the summer and Friday nights in the winter, it also presents free concerts.

There is nowhere better to watch the sunset in the evening than from the water. Purchase a ticket for the two-hour sunset cruise on the Spirit of Ethan Allen, which leaves from Burlington's waterfront area. Take an evening stroll along the boardwalk at the Lake Champlain Waterfront if you'd prefer to keep your feet on solid ground. You can reach Texaco beach, an undeveloped stretch of sand that's a great place for watching the sunset, stargazing, or perhaps even taking a nighttime swim, by continuing on the bike path for another mile or so.

Large, sandy beaches, lush, cascading vineyards, and Kelowna's close proximity to Big White Ski Resort are all well-known features. The Okanagan practically oozes romance with its abundance of juicy summer fruit, vibrant autumn leaves, and cozy winter activities.

While Kelowna's variety of wineries, chic restaurants, and trendy bars are great for romantic outings, there are also a number of thrilling and unique activities that go beyond the city's typical wine tasting, formal dinners, and casual cocktails.

Treat your significant other to a date that's as unique as they are if you happen to be in or near Kelowna on Valentine's Day, your anniversary, or any other reason to celebrate.

In Kelowna, there are many activities for couples, including floating away at Float Space. Go museum-hunting inside the Laurel Packing House (Kelowna's first designated heritage building), surfing at the H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre, which is full of aquatic equipment including waterslides, a wave pool, a river run, and a surf simulator, or dancing all night at the interior's home of live music - The Blue Gator Bar & Grill.
