The oldest person ever whose age has been verified is Jeanne Calment (1875-1997) of France, who lived to the age of 122.

Now, the oldest person alive in the world is Maria Branyas, who is 116 years old. She was born on March 4, 1907, and is an American-Spanish national. She is now living in Spain.

Mara Branyas Morera survived two world wars, the Spanish civil war, the 1918 flu pandemic, and Covid.

Branyas was born on March 4, 1907, in San Francisco, a year after her parents moved from Spain to the United States. The family spent the next eight years in Texas and New Orleans, where her father founded the Spanish-language magazine Mercurio, before returning to Spain and settling in Catalonia.

They later returned to Spain, settling in the Catalonia region. Morera injured her eardrum in a fall while returning to Spain by boat at the age of eight, permanently losing hearing in one ear.

Morera married Joan Moret in 1931, and the couple had three children together. Morera has 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren as of 2019.

Morera entered a nursing home at the age of 93 and has a long list of age-related accomplishments, including being the last known living person in Europe born in 1907 and the oldest living emigrant.

Morera has spent the last 22 years in a nursing home in Catalonia, Spain, but she was born nearly 116 years ago in San Francisco, thousands of miles away.

Despite being only a few weeks away from her 116th birthday, Morera uses Twitter to communicate with her thousands of followers, with a little help from her daughter.

Itooka lived alone in Nara Prefecture for about ten years after her husband died in 1979. During these ten years, she frequently climbed Mt. Nijo and twice climbed Mt. Ontake (which reaches 3,000 meters).

Itooka participated in the Osaka 33 Kannon Pilgrimage twice in her 80s. She even climbed the long stone steps of the Ashiya Shrine without a cane at the age of 100.

Pérez spent most of his time here harvesting sugar cane and coffee. Simultaneously, Pérez taught himself to read and write by using a book given to him by his teacher.

Pérez, 31, moved to Caricuena, Venezuela, with his wife to buy a farm and work alongside his brother. Pérez would even become the town's sheriff in 1948!

Pérez celebrated his birthday with a large gathering of family and friends. He attributes his longevity and good health to hard work, prayer, and drinking a glass of aguardiente every day.

Six children were born to him and Melida Barco after their marriage.

He rode a horse through the town on his 100th birthday. He shared a home with his daughter Enith Quintero Barco, who was 71 years old in 2016. Since Quintero Lopez became a widower in 1962, they have shared a home. He was mentally alert and still able to use a cane to walk at the age of 108. 2020 March will mark his 110th birthday.
