The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is one of Kyoto’s top sights and for good reason: standing amid these soaring stalks of bamboo is like being in another world.
It’s one of Japan’s most enchanting spots to visit and it’s easy to know why. The manner in which the lush green stalks of bamboo rise and filter the light from above, it creates a magical ambience that you won’t find anywhere else. You need to see it to believe it!
You can access it directly from the main street of Arashiyama, a little to the north of the entrance to Tenryu-ji Temple, but it’s best paired with a visit to that temple (exit the north gate, take a left and you’ll be in the grove in no time). There’s just one main path through the grove, which leads slowly uphill. Once you get to the top of the hill, the entrance to the sublime Okochi-Sanso Villa is right in front of you (go in, you won’t regret it).

The Antelope Canyon in Arizona is a picturesque series of crevices you wouldn’t believe wasn’t a photography trick until you checked it out yourself. The way water carved out the crevices millions of years ago–coupled with the manner in which the light hits each wall–makes the rocks appear different colors, creating a dazzling display.
Created by millions of years of erosion, Antelope Canyon is part of the Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, located 10 minutes east of Page, near the Arizona-Utah border. Although it is one slot canyon, there are two points within the park that you can visit: Upper Antelope Canyon and Lower Antelope Canyon.
Upper Antelope Canyon is at ground level, has less than a 2% incline and is the more popular entrance.
Lower Antelope Canyon requires walking down (and up) several flights of stairs and ladders.
| WHAT YOU'LL NEED You'll also need a prior reservation with an authorized Navajo guide to visit either Upper or Lower Antelope Canyon. Book online before you visit since tours can sell out weeks in advance. Additionally, you'll need: A permit, though this is usually covered in your guide's fee (see below). Good walking shoes, especially if visiting Lower Antelope Canyon. See "What to bring" below for more specific items. WHAT IT COSTS Until recently, the cost varied significantly depending on whether you booked a sightseeing or photography tour. The tribe has reduced the availability of photography tours, however, because they frequently caused bottlenecks by allowing photographers to bring their tripod and spend more time setting up shots. Most 90-minute tours of Upper Antelope Canyon cost between $50 and $90 (slightly less for children), although some operators offer discounts on their early bird and last chance tours. Hour-long tours of Lower Antelope Canyon cost $40, and up to $80 for deluxe options. The price generally—but not always—includes taxes and the $8 Navajo permit fee. The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in the Chinese province of Hunan features gigantic pillar-like rocks, the kind you see throughout the movie. The only difference is they aren’t floating. They are the result of many years of erosion. The weather is moist year round, and as a result, the foliage is very dense. The erosion which forms these pillars is the result of expanding ice in the winter and the plants which grow on them. These formations are a distinct hallmark of Chinese landscape, and can be found in many ancient Chinese paintings.
The film's director James Cameron and production designers said that they drew inspiration for the floating rocks in the fictional moon of Pandora from mountains from around the world, including those in the Hunan province.

Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple, is a Buddhist temple with a difference. Built on the site of an old dilapidated temple, eclectic Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat footed the bill to design and construct a contemporary and unusual temple which doubles as an art exhibition. Llyn Llydaw is a lake on the flanks of Snowdon in Caernarfonshire, a long thin lake lying in the bottom of the huge corrie on the east side of the mountain around which Snowdon and its neighbouring peaks sweep. It is overlooked by Snowdon itself, by Garnedd Ugain and Crib Goch to the north, and by Y Lliwedd to the south. One of the major paths up Snowdon begins along the lake.
Llyn Llydaw is the largest of the three lakes on Snowdon's eastern flank. Higher up lies Glaslyn, and lower down lies Llyn Teyrn.
The name of the lake is Welsh. It means "Brittany lake", though whether this is the derivation one cannot say for sure.
Snowdon is the highest mountain in the British Isles outside the Highlands, reaching 3,650 feet, and Llyn Llydaw is about one-third of the way up to this height, its surface at 1,430 feet feet above sea level.
