1. "You're Gonna Miss This" by Trace Adkins

"You're Gonna Miss This" is a song written by Ashley Gorley and Lee Thomas Miller and recorded by American country music artist Trace Adkins. It was released in January 2008 as the second and final single from Adkins' compilation album American Man: Greatest Hits Volume II. Adkins's fastest-climbing single to date, it is his third number one hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. It also peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number 19 on the Pop 100 charts.

"You're Gonna Miss This" is a ballad composed of three verses and a bridge, each section portraying an event in the life of an unnamed female character: being driven to school by her mother in the first verse, being visited at her apartment by her father in the second verse, and conversing with a plumber while her children are misbehaving and making noise in the third verse. In all three of the situations, the song's other characters (the parents and the plumber) assure the central character that even though she may not immediately realize it, she will miss out on the important moments of her life.

Ashley Gorley, one of the song's writers, came up with the central idea for "You're Gonna Miss This" one day while a repairman was working on his house. His two children (ages two and four at the time; he has since had a third) were running around the house and stealing the repairman's tools; after Gorley apologized, the repairman replied, "Don't worry about it — I've got two babies, too." Gorley, after determining that the incident with the repairman might work as a song idea, recalled it to Lee Thomas Miller, who then suggested the title "You're Gonna Miss This." The two then worked backward from the bridge, changing the song's scenario several times until they finally settled on having the song focus on a female central character.

Lyrics

She was staring out the window of that SUV

Complaining, saying "I can't wait to turn eighteen"

She said "I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules"

Momma put the car in park out there in front of the school

She kissed her head and said "I was just like you"

You're gonna miss this

You're gonna want this back

You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times

So take a good look around

You may not know it now

But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride

In her one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by

He tells her "It's a nice place"

She says "It'll do for now"

Starts talking about babies and buying a house

Daddy shakes his head and says "Baby, just slow down"

You're gonna miss this

You're gonna want this back

You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times

So take a good look around

You may not know it now

But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater

Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'

One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'

She keeps apologizin'

He says "They don't bother me

I've got two babies of my own

One's thirty six, one's twenty three

Huh, it's hard to believe, but

You're gonna miss this

You're gonna want this back

You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times

So take a good look around

You may not know it now

But you're gonna miss this

You're gonna' miss this

Yeah

You're gonna' miss this

2. "For My Daughter" by Kane Brown

Lyrics

Someone to play catch with, out in the backyard

To pick up the pieces of your first broken heart

Someone to say slow down when you turn sixteen

Yeah, I grew up without a dad

I'm gonna be the best one I can be

Someone to scare the monsters when it's dark in your room

Someone to put their foot down when you want a tattoo

And not just say I love you, but show you what it means

Yeah, I grew up without a dad

I'm gonna be the best one I can be

They say dads are supposed to shape you, in a way I guess mine did

I knew what I wouldn't do if I ever had a kid

They say history repeats itself

Well, I guess that's up to me

Yeah, I grew up without a dad

I'm gonna be the best one I can be

Someone to let you fall down and teach you how to get back up

And teach you how to be sweet like mama and how to be tough

Yeah, I'll never be perfect, but sure as those lines are pink

Yeah, I grew up without a dad

I'm gonna be the best one I can be

They say dads are supposed to shape you, in a way I guess mine did

I knew what I wouldn't do if I ever had a kid

They say history repeats itself

Well, I guess that's up to me

Yeah, I grew up without a dad

I'm gonna be the best one I can be

Mm, mm, mm

Yeah, I can't change the past, but the past has sure changed me, mm-mm-mm

Yeah, I grew up without a dad

I'm gonna be the best one I can be

I said I'm gonna be a dad and I'm gonna be the best one I can be

The best one I can be

Love you, baby girl

3. "Dads and Daughters" by MaRynn Taylor

To capture the nostalgic emotions of her new song, “Dads and Daughters,” rising artist MaRynn Taylor turned to her family’s home videos. In that treasure trove of footage, she watched herself grow from an infant into a young girl, always eager to go on a bike ride, run through the sprinklers, or sing on stage — never too far from her father’s loving presence.

A Michigan native who’s signed as a songwriter and artist to Black River Entertainment, Taylor is now expressing her appreciation to her family through her music. Enjoy the new video for “Dads and Daughters,” then read our interview below the player.

What do you remember most about the shoot for this video?

One night, I asked my mom if we had any pictures or videos of me growing up. When she brought them out, all I could see was my name and random dates handwritten on the DVDs. Honestly, I wasn’t sure why random dates would be so significant, but oh my gosh when I opened the files I saw why. Each one of those files contained precious memories of times with my dad — timeless snapshots of where I came from. Putting the videos to the music just seemed like the right thing to do. (not gonna lie I might have cried while making it)

How does the video bring your song to life?

I grew up in a very musical household; my dad’s favorite hobby was playing guitar and writing songs. When I was a little girl, he wrote a song for me called “The Greatest Gift.” This was the best present I have ever received. I wrote “Dads and Daughters” as a gift for him. This song is about the love my dad and I share. The video is home footage of my dad and I as I was growing up, and is a snapshot of the connection we have.

What message do you hope your fans take away from the video?

Even though the music video features memories from my childhood, I know there are other dads and daughters out there who can relate to this feeling. I have even started to see fans post their own memories with their fathers on TikTok and Instagram. I love seeing people posting their own versions of the video.

How did it feel to see the finished product for the first time?

The first time I saw it I was by myself and it was incredible, then my dad came in and we watched it together. That’s when the air in the room changed, and we were both definitely crying.

Lyrics

Ten little toes

She has his nose

And the blue from her mother's eyes

His hands were shaking

Round that pink blanket

He hoped he was holding her right

In that moment, he realized

Dads and daughters, they go together

Like boats and water, they're meant for each other

Through wind and the waves, they'll sail away from the storm

And make it to shore

There's nothing stronger than a love between dads and daughters

Before he could blink,

She was sixteen

Stealing the keys to his car

He'd wait at home

Let her go on her own

Knew she wouldn't run too far

Dads and daughters, they go together

Like boats and water, they're meant for each other

Through wind and the waves, they'll sail away from the storm

And make it to shore

There's nothing stronger than a love between dads and daughters

He'll try not to cry

When he sees her in white

Gives her to another man

I hope he understands

Dads and daughters, they go together

Like boats and water, they're meant for each other

Through wind and the waves, they'll sail away from the storm

And make it to shore

There's nothing stronger than a love between dads and daughters

4. “Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle

Lyrics

There's two things I know for sure:

She was sent here from heaven and she's daddy's little girl.

As I drop to my knees by her bed at night

She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes

And I thank god for all of the joy in my life

Oh, but most of all

For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer

Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair

"Walk beside the pony, Daddy, it's my first ride."

"I know the cake looks funny, Daddy, but I sure tried."

Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right

To deserve a hug every morning And butterfly kisses at night.

Sweet 16 today

She's looking like her mama a little more everyday

One part woman, the other part girl.

To perfume and make-up from ribbons and curls

Trying her wings out in a great big world.

But I remember...

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer

Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair.

"You know how much I love you, Daddy

But if you don't mind I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time."

Oh with all that I've done wrong I must have done something right

To deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses at night.

All the precious time

Like the wind, the years go by.

Precious butterfly.

Spread your wings and fly.

She'll change her name today.

She'll make a promise and I'll give her away.

Standing in the bride-room just staring at her.

She asked me what I'm thinking and I said

"I'm not sure-I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl."

She leaned over

Gave me butterfly kisses with her mama there

Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair

"Walk me down the aisle, Daddy-it's just about time."

"Does my wedding gown look pretty, Daddy? Daddy, don't cry"

Oh, with all that I've done wrong I must have done something right.

To deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses

I couldn't ask God for more, man this is what love is.

I know I gotta let her go, but I'll always remember

Every hug in the morning and butterfly kisses...

5. “Daddy’s Little Girl” by Kippi Brannon

Kippi Brannon (born Kippi Rolynn Binkley, 1966) is an American country music singer. She made her debut on the country music scene as a teenager, releasing four singles on MCA Records in the early 1980s before leaving her career in favor of a college education. By 1992, she returned to the country music scene, eventually releasing her debut album I'd Be with You in 1997.

Brannon charted three singles in the early 1980s, in addition to receiving a New Female Vocalist of the Year nomination from the Academy of Country Music. She was also signed as an opening act for other country artists. Although she was gaining in popularity, Brannon decided to leave her career and attend college, first at Belmont University and later at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. During her hiatus from the country music scene, she also married and had a daughter, Kasey; she later divorced and married a second time.

By 1988, Brannon resumed her music career, signing to Curb Records this time around. Her first single for the label, "I Ain't Never", failed to make the charts upon its 1992 release. Working with producers Matt Rollings and James Stroud, she began a search for additional songs to record; however, by the end of 1992, she once again had to take a hiatus, as she had divorced a second time, and had to care for her ailing father. Her first album, I'd Be with You, was released in early 1997, under the production of Mark Bright. Brannon has not recorded since.

Lyrics

Daddy, take me with you

I promise I'll be good

Daddy, it's next time

And Mama said I could

Sitting in the front seat

Riding downtown

For an ice cream cone

I'd wrap him around

My little fingers

Tighter than my baby curls

You can make a tear go

A long, long way when you're

Daddy's little girl

Walking down the isle

My eyes on Mr. Right

My bouquet was shaking

But Daddy held on tight

Taking those last steps

Daddy and me, from the child

To the woman I'd be

With a diamond on my finger

And my mama's string of pearls

He gave me away, 'cause I couldn't stay

Daddy's little girl

Well, he taught me my bible

From seven to thirteen

Taught me to drive

When I was a wild thing

I reached and he prayed

When I made some mistakes

That I wouldn't have made

If I'd've done it his way

Now he hugs me when he sees me

We talk about the past

He tries to give me money

And I try to give it back

He's a book of advice

More than I need

The look in his eyes

As he's saying to me

Let me help you while I can

While I'm still in this world

What will you do when your Daddy's gone

And you're Daddy's little girl

What'll I do when my daddy's gone

6. “I Loved Her First” by Heartland

"I Loved Her First" is the debut song recorded by American country music band Heartland. It was released in June 2006 as the first single title track from their debut studio album I Loved Her First (2006). The song reached Number One on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in late 2006. The song was written by Walt Aldridge and Elliott Park.

The song is a mid-tempo ballad in triple meter. In it, the male narrator is talking to the man who is about to marry his daughter, telling him that he is having difficulty giving her away because he "loved her first." The song is a signature Father-Daughter song to dance to at wedding receptions for numerous brides and their fathers.

Lyrics

Look at the two of you dancin' that way

Lost in the moment and each other's face

So much in love, you're alone in this place

Like there's nobody else in the world

I was enough for her not long ago

I was her number one, she told me so

And she still means the world to me, just so you know

So be careful when you hold my girl

Time changes everything, life must go on

And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first, I held her first

And a place in my heart will always be hers

From the first breath she breathed

When she first smiled at me

I knew the love of a father runs deep

And I prayed that she'd find you someday

But it's still hard to give her away

I loved her first

How could that beautiful woman with you

Be the same freckle face kid that I knew

The one that I read all those fairytales to

And tucked into bed all those nights

And I knew the first time I saw you with her

It was only a matter of time

I loved her first, I held her first

And a place in my heart will always be hers

From the first breath she breathed

When she first smiled at me

I knew the love of a father runs deep

And I prayed that she'd find you someday

But it's still hard to give her away

I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed

When she first smiled at me

I knew the love of a father runs deep

Someday you might know what I'm goin' through

When a miracle smiles up at you

I loved her first

Lyrics

In my daughter's eyes

I am a hero

I am strong and wise

And I know no fear

But the truth is plain to see

She was sent to rescue me

I see who I want to be

In my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes

Everyone is equal

Darkness turns to light

And the world is at peace

This miracle God gave to me

Gives me strength when I am weak

I find reason to believe

In my daughter's eyes

And when she wraps her hand around my finger

How it puts a smile in my heart

Everything becomes a little clearer

I realize what life is all about

It's hanging on when your heart is had enough

It's giving more when you feel like giving up

I've seen the light

It's in my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes

I can see the future

A reflection of who I am and what will be

And though she'll grow and someday leave

Maybe raise a family

When I'm gone I hope you'll see

How happy she made me

For I'll be there

In my daughter's eyes

Lyrics

I'm lost in her there holdin' that pink rod and reel

She's doin' almost everything but sittin' still

Talkin' 'bout her ballet shoes and training wheels

And her kittens

And she thinks we're just fishin'

I say, "Daddy loves you, baby" one more time

She says, "I know, I think I've got a bite"

And all this laughin', cryin, smilin', dyin' here inside's

What I call, livin'

And she thinks we're just fishin' on the riverside

Throwin' back what we could fry

Drownin' worms and killin' time

Nothin' too ambitious

She ain't even thinkin' 'bout

What's really goin' on right now

But I guarantee this memory's a big'in

And she thinks we're just fishin'

She's already pretty, like her mama is

Gonna drive the boys all crazy

Give her daddy fits

And I better do this every chance I get

'Cause time is tickin'

(Yeah it is)

And she thinks we're just fishin' on the riverside

Throwin' back what we could fry

Drownin' worms and killin' time

Nothin' too ambitious

She ain't even thinkin' 'bout

What's really goin' on right now

But I guarantee this memory's a big'in

And she thinks we're just fishin'

She ain't even thinkin' 'bout

What's really goin' on right now

But I guarantee this memory's a big'in

And she thinks we're just fishin'

Yeah, aw, she thinks we're just fishin'

We ain't only fishin'

(This ain't about fishin')

The narrator of the song addresses his daughter, telling her that even though she is growing up, she will always be "[his] little girl"

Lyrics

Gotta hold on easy as I let you go

Gonna tell how much I love you

Though you think you already know

I remember I thought you looked like an angel

Wrapped in pink, so soft and warm

You've had me wrapped around your finger

Since the day you were born

You're beautiful, baby, from the outside in

Chase your dreams, but always know the road

That'll lead you home again

Go on, take on this whole world

But to me you know you'll always be

My little girl

When you were in trouble, that crooked little smile

Could melt my heart of stone

Now look at you, I've turned around

And you've almost grown

Sometimes you're asleep, I whisper, I love you

In the moonlight at your door

As I walk away, I hear you say

Daddy, love you more

You're beautiful, baby, from the outside in

Chase your dreams, but always know the road

That'll lead you home again

Go on, take on this whole world

But to me you know you'll always be

My little girl

Someday, some boy will come and ask me for your hand

But I won't say yes to him unless I know

He's the half that makes you whole

He has a poet's soul

And the heart of a man's man

I know he'll say that he's in love

But between you and me

He won't be good enough

You're beautiful, baby, from the outside in (outside in)

Chase your dreams, but always know the road

That'll lead you home again

Go on, take on this whole world

But to me you know you'll always be

My little girl

Lyrics

I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow

And each road leads you where you want to go

And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose

I hope you choose the one that means the most to you

And if one door opens to another door closed

I hope you keep on walkin' 'till you find the window

If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile

But more than anything, more than anything

My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to

Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small

You never need to carry more than you can hold

And while you're out there getting where you're getting to

I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too

Yeah, this, is my wish

I hope you never look back, but ya never forget

All the ones who love you, in the place you left

I hope you always forgive, and you never regret

And you help somebody every chance you get

Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake

And always give more than you take

But more than anything, yeah, more than anything

My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to

Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small

You never need to carry more than you can hold

And while you're out there getting where you're getting to

I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too

Yeah, this, is my wish.

Yeah

My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that want it to

Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small

You never need to carry more than you can hold

And while you're out there gettin' where you're gettin' to

I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too

Yeah, this is my wish (My wish for you)

This is my wish (My wish for you)

Hope you know somebody loves you (My wish for you)

May all your dreams come true (My wish for you)

Shortly after releasing “Boy,” the lead single off his self-titled fourth studio album, the 38-year-old country singer welcomed his third child with wife Sarah, a daughter named Trulee Nanette. Though he didn’t write the hit, Brice recorded it in tribute to his two sons, 9-year-old Takota and 3-year-old Ryker.

20. "Ready, Set, Don't Go" by Billy Ray Cyrus

"Ready, Set, Don't Go" is a country song performed by American singers Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus. It was released as the lead single from Home at Last, Billy Ray Cyrus' tenth studio album on October 10, 2007. The song has received different interpretations, although, in actuality, Cyrus wrote the song several years before its release when his daughter, Miley, moved to Los Angeles in order to pursue an acting career with an audition for the Disney Channel Original Series Hannah Montana. "Ready, Set, Don't Go" received critical praise, with reviewers complimenting its lyrical content. It also reached positive commercial responses for Cyrus, compared to his downfall in previous years. Peaking at number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100, it became Cyrus' first entry on the chart since "You Won't Be Lonely Now" (2000).
