Trains delayed across Sydney after rail breaks at Central

Damage has been done to the T9 Northern Line, the T1 North Shore Line, the T2 Inner West and Leppington Line, and the T1 Western Line.

The Sydney Morning Herald says that between 8am and 9am, more than a third of all services leaving Burwood were canceled, and other services had to wait a long time.

To help people get from Wynyard to Hornsby and from Berowra to North Sydney, shuttle trains have been set up.

It's likely that there will be breaks in service throughout the morning.

The T2 Inner West and South Line, the T3 Bankstown Line, and the T8 Airport South Line are also having trouble because of the delays.

Commuters are angry and have taken to social media site X to say what they think. People are told to give themselves more time for travel and to pay attention to announcements and changes to schedules at stations.

Because of "urgent track repairs" that need to be done at Central Station, the T1, T2, T3, T8, and T9 train lines are all affected.

For the Inner West and Leppington line, the Airport and South line, and the Bankstown line, alerts have been put in place.

Jas Tumber, director of rail operations for Transport for NSW, told 2GB that the repair job was hard. "Because it is a significant broken rail we are having to cut a section of the rail out and replace it this morning, which as you can imagine logistically is very complex to do whilst we're still operating the network," he added.

Commuters are already filling up stations to the brim, and travelers can't get on at Ashfield because the trains are already full.

Some services might be late, and others might change where they stop or start from a different platform.

Uber prices have gone through the roof. As of 8:30am, a trip from Burwood to Central Station costs an average of $70.
