Top 10 Premier League signings of the 2020/21 season in Detail
1. Ruben Dias | Benfica to Manchester City | £61.20m
Ruben Dias has transformed Manchester City from a defensively frail side to one of the most robust sides in European football. He has even made John Stones look like a top class centre half, certainly no easy task.
That massive £61million fee already looks like a bargain, with Dias making a similar impact to the one that we saw from Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool. Easily the best signing in the Premier League this season.
City paid a lot of money for Dias but he's been worth every penny. He's almost single handedly transformed City's defence from a liability to a strength.

2. Wesley Fofana | Saint-Etienne to Leicester City | £31.50m
Fofana was just 19 years old when Leicester splashed out on him last summer. He's already one of the Premier League's best defenders after an outstanding campaign.
It's incredible to think that Wesley Fofana is only 20-years old. He has been absolutely sensational for Leicester since joining from Saint Etienne, putting in the type of assured defensive displays that you would rarely see from a player at his age.
Brendan Rodgers will be praying that his side can secure Champions League football this season. Otherwise, there will be plenty of clubs at that level who would be interested in making his stay at the King Power Stadium a short one.
3. Tomas Soucek | Slavia Prague to West Ham | £14.58m
West Ham made a great decision to make Soucek's loan permanent at the start of the season.
A towering presence, Soucek has scored nine times in the English top flight in 2020/21.
Tomas Soucek was the most prolific goalscorer in the league there for a while this season, not bad for a midfielder who had previously spent his entire playing career in the Czech Republic.
At 26-years old, he still has room to improve. It's unlikely West Ham could have launched their
4. Emiliano Martinez | Arsenal to Aston Villa | £15.66m
Martinez has been arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this season. He's kept 15 clean sheets and has made the fourth-most saves in England's top tier (128).
Though Bernd Leno is by no means performing badly for Arsenal this season, Aston Villa have made a mockery of sorts of the Gunners’ decision to let Emiliano Martinez go.
While Dean Smith’s side narrowly escaped relegation last season, they are on course to finish in the top half of the table in 2020/21 and a big part of their improvement has come in defence and in goal.
They currently have a defensive record better than Man Utd, Leicester, Liverpool, Everton, and Arsenal, with Martinez securing 14 clean sheets in 28 league appearances.
5. Edinson Cavani | Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester United | Free transfer
Cavani has been brilliant in the past few months. He has contributed to 13 Premier League goals this campaign despite completing the full 90 minutes just eight times.
6. Jesse Lingard | Manchester United to West Ham | Loan
Lingard is the only January signing to make the list. He has had an extraordinary impact since joining, providing 13 goal contributions in 13 games.
West Ham could have been competing for the title had they had this Jesse Lingard on their team for the entire season.
The England international has been nothing short of sensational since joining the club on loan in January, scoring nine goals and registering four assists in ten appearances. You could argue he should be higher up on this list, although the fact this is only a half-season loan deal has to come into consideration.
7. Vladimir Coufal | Slavia Prague to West Ham | £5.40m
Coufal has been a bargain. He's been so good that Jamie Carragher named him in his Premier League team of the season.
It is a testament to how fantastic West Ham have been this season that two of their signings have made it into our top 10 list.
Not only do they have two players, but two players from the same club, as like Soucek, Vladimir Coufal was signed from Slavia Prague for what now seems like a bargain amount.
He has adapted to life in the Premier League seamlessly and is equally adept at right-back as he is at right wing-back. The small transfer fee, plus is incredibly quick adaptation period is what earns Coufal his place.
8. Matheus Pereira | Sporting CP to West Brom | £7.43m
Pereira spent last season on loan at West Brom and was signed permanently in the summer. The Brazilian, with 10 goals and six assists in the Premier League, has been one of the Baggies' few bright spots this campaign.
When Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg made his debut for Tottenham on the opening day of the season against Everton, he looked well off the pace as he and his new club lost 1-0.
However, he has bounced back superbly from this early set-back to become one of Spurs’ most important players and Jose Mourinho’s lieutenant on the pitch.
While the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and lately Gareth Bale will steal the majority of the plaudits, his underrated job of collecting possession from the defence and metronomically moving it on to the attackers is vital.
9. Thiago Silva | Paris Saint-Germain to Chelsea | Free transfer
Silva may be past his best but, at 36 years old, he's been an important part in a successful Chelsea season.
Chelsea’s signing of Thiago Silva from Paris Saint-Germain was treated with some scepticism.
By the time the Brazil international defender was fit to make his debut for the club, he was four days past his 36th birthday. His experience, however, has proven to be a boon for the Blues both on and off the field.
The downside, however, is that he has struggled for fitness in recent weeks after helping Chelsea to three clean sheets in three Premier League matches as Thomas Tuchel took charge in January.
10. Edouard Mendy | Stade Rennais to Chelsea | £21.60m
Mendy has been a massive improvement on Kepa. A commanding presence between the sticks, the Senegalese has kept 16 clean sheets this campaign.
Mendy has had a decent season at Chelsea, but the fact that the club no longer have to select Kepa is reason enough for his inclusion on this list.
While he is not quite in the top tier of goalkeepers in the game, Chelsea supporters can now have some confidence that their 'keeper won't drop a howler in most games
