In order to choose a life partner, certain qualifications are extremely important. Education is one of them. Nowadays, people look for those who have stellar educational qualifications for their child.
However, some lie their way through this and get caught often. An instance of this came to light in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba where a woman called her marriage off because her husband could not recite the table of 2, which is the easiest.
The woman had been suspicious of her would-be partner’s educational qualifications hence the test to recite the multiplication table before the exchange of garlands, reported shethepeople.tv.
Unfortunately, the groom, from Dhawar village in the Mahoba district failed to do so, prompting the woman to call off the marriage.
Despite appeals from family members and villagers who attended the May 1 arranged marriage ceremony to continue with the ceremony, the woman was determined and said she would not marry a person “who does not know the basics of mathematics.”
All the guests who were present at the wedding were extremely shocked. Her family members tried to convince her but she did not budge. She stated that how can she marry someone who does not even have basic educational qualifications, let alone be good at mathematics.

The bride's cousin was quoted saying, "The groom's family had kept us in the dark about his education. He may not have even gone to school. The groom's family had cheated us. But my brave sister walked out without fearing taboo."
“The groom’s family has cheated us. But my brave sister walked out without fearing social taboo,” she reportedly said.
The bride’s cousin said they were shocked to find out the groom was uneducated, cited by Yahoo News.

Panwari Station House Officer, Vinod Kumar, said, it was an arranged marriage. Members of the two families and several villagers had gathered at the marriage venue. Just as the wedding was about to be solemnized, the bride walked out of the mandap, saying she cannot marry a person, who does not know the basics of mathematics. Friends and relatives failed to convince the bride, the Tribune India reported.
The police did not lodge a case after both parties struck a compromise on the intervention of prominent citizens of the village. The deal entailed that the bride and groom’s families return gifts and jewellery.
This is not the first case of such an incident, however, as another Indian bride back in 2015 dumped her groom after the latter likewise failed a math test.
The groom reportedly answered ‘17’ after the wife asked him to add 15 and six during the wedding, which was also held in Uttar Pradesh.
|AP reported in 2015 that an Indian bride walked out of her wedding after the bridegroom failed to solve a simple math problem, leaving hundreds of disgruntled guests behind. |
Police in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh where the wedding had been organized said the woman’s relatives put the groom to the test after becoming concerned about his level of education.
Despite pleas from the groom’s family, the bride-to-be stormed out of the wedding, which took place on Wednesday, after he failed to come up with the correct answer for 15 plus six.
“As soon as she learned that the man was uneducated, she refused to marry him,” local police official Iddu Hasan told Agence France-Presse.
Police were called to intervene in the row, but it was eventually resolved by the families, who returned all the jewellery, gifts and cash traditionally exchanged at an Indian wedding.
