You can take that as a compliment or an insult, but there's no denying that China is one of the world's most fascinating nations. They are both ideologies that we can support, and both seem to 'fit the bill' quite well.

No matter how you feel about the country, you can't deny that they do some things that leave even the most creative among us scratching our heads.

Learn about the seven most outlandish Chinese imports from KnowInsider.

1. The Watermelon Museum

The Beijing Watermelon Museum is a real thing. Do you really ever require more details than that?

To be completely honest, we think it's brilliant that someone came up with the concept of basing a store on a watermelon. We're not saying it's a bad thing so much as we're saying it's incredibly random, and that's the kind of ground we're about to cover with some of the other submissions. Obviously, if you're a watermelon fanatic, you should visit this place, and if you do, please bring us a souvenir!

2. Tianmen Skywalk

For example, this is eerily terrifying in its own weird way. The Tianmen Mountain, at an altitude of nearly 5,000 feet, looks like the sort of place you'd go to defeat the game's ultimate boss. There's obviously a lot more to it than that, but the 2016 addition of a skywalk is all we can really think about. The Coiling Dragon Cliff is an impressive sight, and we applaud your bravery if it inspires you to climb it.

We'd have a lot of things running through our heads as we crossed, and maybe that's the point.

3. The Green Village

Seriously, wow. Houtouwan is a ghost town that used to be home to two thousand fishermen before it was abandoned and turned into a fantastic tourist attraction. Why?

Simply put, vegetation has grown to the point where it obscures everything else. It's like looking at a lost city that you'd expect to be buried deep underground, but which is actually standing before your very eyes. Really, I mean it.

We're not sure if it's tragic or incredible, so we'll call it amazing if we have to pick. You really ought to go check it out at some point in your life.

4. Dragon Escalator

Located about an hour outside of Beijing, the Dragon Escalator holds the record for longest outdoor escalator in the world. It's great because it leads to the top of the country's largest dam, and it's even better because it's shaped like a dragon.

Some might call it tacky or a cheap gimmick, but we'd argue that the same could be said about almost any nation on Earth. However, we can't help but be captivated by its unique allure simply because it's located in China.

5. Ice And Snow Festival

Attending the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival will make you question your own artistic abilities.

Around 18 million people attend every year, making it the largest festival of its kind in the world. The winter winds from Siberia and the subzero temperatures make it possible for the sculptures to stand for a long time.

We really can't think of anywhere else we'd rather spend Christmas than on Sun Island and in Ice and Snow World.

6. The Red Beach

Keeping with the trend of stunning coloration, we've reached Red Beach. You can find it in Dawa County, which is part of Panjin, and to answer your most pressing question, it has this appearance because the Suaeda salsa plant is prominent there. It's quite a scene, with the sea in the background, even if it is, depending on your point of view, a little intimidating.

The depth of the water is limited, but that is of little consequence. It doesn't matter what kind of establishments are included on the list, what kind of people work there, or even what the word "weird" means; what matters is that this place exists.

7. Ducks On Leashes

It has happened in a few other places, though nowhere near to the extent that it has in China. It's a humorous concept, but we're not sure that's the right word for it, mainly because it seems and feels so artificial.

Putting a cat on a leash is a common occurrence, but just because we're aware of the phenomenon doesn't mean we accept or comprehend it. While we can see the reasoning, we need a little more explanation before we can accept this about cats.

Those of you who aren't from China may feel a knot in your stomach whenever you think about China's weirdo world. The word "weird" is perfectly apt to describe some of the "things" that occur in the world's most populous country. Travel to China if you have the stomach for the weirdest of experiences. It's likely that you'll run out of room in your travel journal before you run out of things to write about how strange this country is.
