As the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial broke for jury deliberation, Depp fans were in for a pleasant surprise. The Pirates of the Caribbean star made a surprise appearance at a Jeff Beck show in Sheffield on Sunday night, as per The Mirror. Beck is currently on his European tour. Him and Depp had sung a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Isolation’ back in 2020 and last night, that was the song to which Depp rocked out. Depp and Heard’s defamation trial has seen much social media fervour in support of Depp, and after last night’s surprise performance, his legions of fans couldn’t rein in their emotions.
Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance on stage with rock guitarist Jeff Beck in Sheffield on Sunday night.
Singing and playing guitar, Depp performed covers of Jimi Hendrix’s Little Wing and Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On, plus the John Lennon song Isolation, which he and Beck recorded a studio version of in 2020.
The performance comes amid his high-profile US court case against ex-wife Amber Heard, brought by Depp, who accuses Heard of defamation after she published an article in the Washington Post that referred to herself as a victim of domestic abuse. Heard has countersued.
For seven weeks, a jury listened to allegations of abuse from both parties towards the other, and will deliberate on a verdict after reconvening on 31 May.
Depp has long dabbled in rock music, including with his supergroup Hollywood Vampires alongside Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry. In 2015, they recorded with Paul McCartney, and Depp appears in the video for McCartney’s song My Valentine, also playing guitar. Footage from that performance, part of McCartney’s live set since 2013, has been screened during McCartney’s US tour amid the Depp trial, though McCartney has not commented on the case.

On releasing their version of Isolation in 2020, Beck said: “Johnny and I have been working on music together for a while now and we recorded this track during our time in the studio last year … you’ll be hearing more from Johnny and me in a little while”. There have been no further releases since Isolation, however.

The Internet has shown a lot of support for the actor over the past couple of months and this time too it isn't any different. One Twitter user, after watching Depp enjoy himself on the stage wrote, "The maestro at the City Hall tonight. Honestly, he has to be seen to be believed. Johnny Depp thrown in too. A surprisingly good musician despite all his baggage. Is there anyone better than Jeff Beck?" Another user said, "Johnny Depp never ending, boundless, he is awesome at everything. He has moved on pursuing all his passions awesome performance with Jeff Beck. He surrounds himself with such talented people. He finally rid of the weight/anchor Heard no positive stuff with her."
After their cover of Lennon's 'Isolation' picked up traction on streaming platforms, fans wanted them to reunite and give them an album. Preaching the same, one user wrote, "Jeff Beck is Playing as 'Jeff Beck'.. He is only Touring the UK for a short Run. Johnny is making an Appearance if he can. Rumors are going wild. That's the Deal. Johnny and Jeff then plan to go in the Studio. #Truth #JohnnyDepp" One avid user tweeted, " As if seeing the magical Jeff Beck & his fantastic band isn’t enough, he introduces a little known guest singer & on walks Johnny Depp!!! What a Sunday night in Sheffield."

About “Isolation” (John Lennon song)
"Isolation" is a 1970 song appearing on John Lennon's first official solo album release, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. It ends side one of the album, and is the fifth track. In the Philippines Apple Records released "Isolation" as the b-side to "Mother", the single off John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, in contrast to most countries where the b-side was Yoko Ono's "Why." It was also released on an EP in Mexico along with "Mother," "Look at Me" and "My Mummy's Dead."
At the time, Lennon began to feel disillusioned with fame and where his life was heading, with the break-up of the Beatles, the attacks he and Yoko Ono were facing at the time, as well as acute insecurity and self-doubt brought on through his extensive drug use." "Isolation" reveals Lennon's feelings of vulnerability, despite his fame and fortune. Beatles biographer John Blaney sees this as continuing the theme of the album, as Lennon strips away another layer of myth that hides the true reality. Blaney sees this revelation as being particularly painful for Lennon, for whom belonging and acceptance was very important.
The lyrics begin by stating that even though he and Ono seem to have everything, they are still as lonely and isolated as everyone else. The second verse focuses on the couple's political activism, which many oppose generating even further isolation. The third verse generalizes the situation further. Lennon acknowledges that the people who have caused his pain can't be blamed, since we are all part of the same irrational world, and thus we are all victims of the world's insanity. This verse borrows from an older song, Barrett Strong's "Oh I Apologize," the b-side to his 1959 single "Money (That's What I Want)." In "Oh I Apologize" Strong sang "I don't expect you to take me back/after I've caused you so much pain." The third verse of "Isolation" begins "I don't expect you to understand/After you caused so much pain" before noting that the listener is not to blame. The fourth and final verse puts people's fears of each other and even of the sun into the context of a universe in which the sun is permanent but our world may not be.

Who will win between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard?Lawyers for Johnny Depp and Amber Heard made their closing statements on Friday, seeking to persuade the jury that their respective clients were abused and defamed. After 23 days of testimony, the trial depicted different portrayals of a stormy Hollywood marriage. Mr. Depp's lawyers stated that Ms. Heard referred to herself as a "public figure symbolising domestic abuse" in a Washington Post op-ed, and that their client had been wrongfully disparaged. According to the lawyers, the charges of spousal violence she was referring to had wrecked Mr. Depp's life. Ms. Heard's attorneys claimed that not only were the charges and op-eds totally factual, but that the actress had been wrongfully maligned during judicial proceedings in 2020 when a lawyer representing Mr. Depp at the time called her abuse allegations fake. The case has already been assigned to seven jurors. The trial in Fairfax County Circuit Court has received a lot of attention since it was televised and livestreamed with two cameras in the courtroom, which is unusual in Virginia. The public seats in the courtroom have been in high demand, with Depp admirers queueing in the middle of the night to get a spot. Finally, the jury must examine the veracity of the allegations. However, testimony on a variety of alleged events from Mr. Depp and Ms. Heard's marriage has dominated the six-week trial. Jurors must determine whether the elements of the Washington Post op-ed written by Heard alluding to Johnny Depp were untrue, and whether it was written with "actual malice" if he was to win his case.
