Full Lyrics of "Yellow Flicker Beat"
I'm a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm
And the scars that mark my body, they're silver and gold
My blood is a flood of rubies, precious stones
It keeps my veins hot, the fires find a home in me
I move through town, I'm quiet like a fire
And my necklace is of opal, I tie it and untie it
And our people talk to me, but nothing ever hits
So people talk to me, and all the voices just burn holes
I'm going in (ooh)
This is the start of how it all ever ends
They used to shout my name, now they whisper it
I'm speeding up and this is the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
We rip the start, the colors disappear
I never watch the stars there's so much down here
So I just try to keep up with them
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
I dream all year, but they're not the same kinds
And the shivers move down my shoulder blades in double time
And now people talk to me I'm slipping out of reach now
People talk to me, and all their faces blur
But I got my fingers laced together and I made a little prison
And I'm locking up everyone that ever laid a finger on me
I'm going in (ooh)
This is the start of how it all ever ends
They used to shout my name, now they whisper it
I'm speeding up and this is the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
We rip the start, the colors disappear
I never watch the stars there's so much down here
So I just try to keep up with them
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat
Sparking up my heart
And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat-beat-beat-beat
Who is Lorde?
She was born on November 7, 1996, and goes by the stage name Lorde. She is a singer-songwriter from New Zealand. When she was in her early teens, she signed with Universal Music Group and was paired with songwriter and record producer Joel Little. Little has worked with Lorde on most of her songs and produced them. Lorde's first single, "Royals," came out in the middle of 2013.
It became a hit all over the world, and Lorde became the youngest solo artist (and the only person from New Zealand) to have a number-one single in the US since 1987. The single "Yellow Flicker Beat" by Lorde from the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 came out in 2014. Lorde's music is a mix of different styles, like dream pop and indietronica. She has won ten New Zealand Music Awards, two Grammys, and a Brit Award. That same year, Time named her one of the world's most influential teens. The next year, Forbes put her on their "30 Under 30" list.

Before the beat comes in, the song starts with a sad acoustic. It's sung in a haunting way that makes you feel cold long after the song has started in earnest: "I'm a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm." This is the first line that Lorde released. Lorde's lyrics about the "red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart" make you want to rebel just for the sake of rebelling, and the song is the perfect accompaniment.
When Lorde sang "they used to shout my name; now they whisper it" and "I've got my fingers laced together and I've made a little prison and I'm locking up everyone who ever laid a finger on me," she really captured the spirit of Mockingjay and Katniss as the rebel's most famous symbol.
