Most winter festivals of India are held in the month of December. The last month of the year is full of festivity in each state of the country. Nagaland celebrates Hornbill Festival, one of the winter festivals of India, in the month of December. Agriculture being the chief means of sustenance for over 60% of the tribal population in Nagaland, the festivals are devoted to agriculture in this Indian state. Held in the first week of December, Hornbill Festival celebration is a cultural statement made by the tribes of Nagaland. Observed through folk dance and music performances, the fest gives a fair understanding of the land’s traditional custom and culture, art and craft. The capital city Kohima is the venue of Hornbill Festival, Indianeagle listed.
The state of Manipur celebrates Chumpha Festival to herald the season of harvest in winter. Scheduled to continue from December 10 to 16, the festival is a grand cultural celebration by the Tanghul Nagas of Manipur. They spring into dance and music on the last three days of the festivity which culminates in a spectacular procession. The tribal culture of Manipur manifests itself through the celebration highlighted through the active participation of the women of the state.

Galdan Namchot is a must-attend festival of the country that is known for the arrival of New Year in Leh Ladakh. This festival also celebrates the Buddhahood and the birthday of the Tsongkhapa, a Tibetan saint-scholar. All the heritage buildings and monasteries are nicely decorated as the locals enjoy this festival with music and dance. This festival is celebrated in Leh Ladakh in December month. Some of the major attractions of the festival are the preparation of different varieties of local food, gifting Khatak (a sort of ceremonial scarf) to relatives and friends.
Cochin Carnival is a famous cultural feast that is celebrated with zeal and cheerfulness. Along with cultural gigs, and musical performances, this celebration comprises a grand parade of decorated elephants, folk music, and beautifully dressed people in colorful attire. Some of the most important attractions during the festival are the constant playing of five instrumental music in perfect rhythm, harmony, beach football, beach bike race, and beach volleyball, Tusktravel added.
Magnificent Kumbhalgarh Fort near Udaipur provides the setting for this annual three-day festival organized by Rajasthan Tourism. It features performances by folk artists, art camp, puppet show, and puppet-making exhibition, Tripsavvy noted.
Set against the surreal backdrop of Kutch's white salt desert, the Rann Utsav showcases the region's culture and heritage (although it has unfortunately become rather commercial and overcrowded). Activities include folk dances and music, food stalls, ATV rides, camel cart excursions, para-motoring, meditation, yoga, and trips to surrounding destinations.
