What is Five Nights at Freddy’s
Five Nights at Freddy’s is a point-and-click, survival-horror game that has taken the gaming world by storm. Having released in August 2014 for PC, the fan-favorite horror series has since then been released across the platforms of Mac, iOS, Android, and even has plans to reach console devices in the future.
The popular horror series was developed by Scott Cawthon – a rather unknown Indie developer that focused mainly on creating Christian-themed games. The success of Five Nights at Freddy’s was far from expected as the relatively unknown game rose to fame after a series of Let’s Plays were uploaded by popular YouTuber’s. Markiplier –a YouTuber with over 17 million subscribers– has received just over 58 million views on his first Let’s Play of the series. That is a pretty amazing feat for someone that was just two years ago, an unknown developer.
Here are some things that you may not have known about the popular horror series, Five Nights at Freddy’s.
1. Fredbear's Family Diner Was The Pizzeria's Old Name
Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria was initially called Fredbear's Family Diner, as per Phone Guy in Five Nights At Freddy's 2. He also states that the original restaurant, this so-called diner was a local family restaurant till it was branded and franchised as a pizza chain.
One of the hidden altered posters in the game also gives further insight into the history of the first restaurant. Apparently, a man dressed in an animatronic suit lured a few children in the back of the eatery and murdered them. While the suspect was apprehended, none of the children's bodies could be recovered. The game later points to antagonist William Afton being the serial killer.
2. The Initial Trailer Showed Characters With Different Abilities

Sometimes the development process of a game doesn’t go as smoothly as you might have planned as designs and ideas are constantly changing for the betterment of the game.
In the initial trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s some eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that Bonnie had the ability to run. But as most of you would know, this was not a feature that was present in the final game. Instead, the ability was given to Foxy, and Bonnie was given the ability to teleport into any room along his path. Scott has yet to give an explanation as to why he decided to their change abilities.
3. The Pizza Place Possibly Thrived Until The 80s
As per the novels inspired by the games, the location of the pizza eateries is mostly traced to Utah. As for the time period in which the titular five nights take place at the Pizza Place, Mary Schmidt's paycheck can be of help.
Schmidt, the heroine of the fan-game Five Nights At Candy's, receives a paycheck by the end that is dated in November 1987. The fan-game focuses on a Burgers and Fries restaurant that was established after the Pizzeria closed its doors, following the events of Five Nights At Freddy's 2. This probably means that Freddy Fazbear's Pizza possibly existed in the 1980s.
4. Hidden Facts in FNAF 3's The Newspaper

Hidden in the newspaper at the end of Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, are all sorts of awesome facts about the popular horror franchise. While many players would have just focused on the central article about Fazbear’s Fright burned down, many fans of the series made it their mission to decipher the text around the article that was only partially blurry.
Once deciphered, fans were greeted with a number of awesome facts that detail Scott Cawthon’s experiences while developing the game. He even goes as far as explaining that he was almost at the point of giving up on game development completely and was ready to start looking for a new career to pursue.
5. Differences With Real-Life Animatronics
The animatronics of the game's Pizza Place seem to be pretty believable when compared to the musical robots of Showbiz Pizza and Chuck E. Cheese. Still, for obvious reasons, the game's robots are much more agile, and the chief difference lies in the hips. The robots in Chuck E. Cheese restaurants were not provided any articulation below the hips to provide them with more stability. At Freddy Fazbear's, the animatronics have more flexible knees, and ankles.
6. The Game Even Scared Scott Cawthon

You know you’ve done something right when you are scared by your own game. While many may argue that Five Nights at Freddy’s isn’t that scary when compared to other horror games on the market, many gamers (apart from the younger audience and overdramatic YouTubers) only found the game to be mildly scary. This was thanks to the obnoxious amount of cheap jump scares that plague the game.
But that doesn’t seem to be the case for the games creator (Scott Cawthon), as he revealed that he once had a nightmare that Bonnie was standing in the hall outside of his room – Bonnie is often referred to as the least scary out of all the animatronics. He stated that he rushed to his door but found that it was already locked – a sign from the game that something was already inside the room. Thankfully, Scott awoke before things could get any worse.
7. The Pizza Place Served As A Haunted House
Based in Las Vegas, The Fright Dome was a popular walk-through horror attraction that ran for about a year from 2016 to 2017. Its owner, Jason Egan, even brought Freddy Fazbear's Pizza as a haunted house located in the Fright Dome.
Visitors could wander throughout the Pizzeria just like the actual game, with characters like Chica, Bonnie, Freddy, and Foxie stalking and scaring them. The Fright Dome's website rated the tourist attraction as "I." The "I" stands for "intense," and it wasn't suited for children below the age of 12.
This year's COVID-19 pandemic proved to be a tough time for several business establishments, including Chuck E. Cheese, whose parent company, CEC Entertainment, filed for bankruptcy this year. The incident has prompted several Chuck E. Cheese outlets to shut down, which has only roused the interest of the game's fans. The fans have actively been suggesting for these closed restaurants to be rebranded as Five Nights At Freddy's locations. |
