There is only one Frank Lloyd Wright-built house in the Southeast that is open to the public, and that is the L-shaped Rosenbaum House in Florence, Alabama. The Usonian-style house was constructed in 1939 to serve as an affordable and effective home for a middle-class family.

2. Dr. Seuss House - Alaska

This wacky 12-story private home located between Talkeetna and Willow, Alaska has been nicknamed the "Dr. Seuss House." The home, which was built by Anchorage attorney Phil Weidner, has remained unfinished for years.

3. Winchester House - California

The 2018 film Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built was inspired by the true account of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California. Rifle heiress Sarah Winchester spent decades mysteriously converting the original eight-room farmhouse into a sprawling 160-room mansion, complete with doors and stairways leading nowhere after her husband passed away in 1881.

4. The Paper House - Massachusetts

This peculiar house is made entirely of newspaper. That goes for the decor, the walls, and the fireplace included. The roof, which has been shingled, is the only component that isn't entirely made of newspaper.

Elis F. Stenman, a mechanical engineer who created the paper clip manufacturing machinery, built the Paper House in 1922 as a vacation home. It has a grandfather clock made of newspapers depicting all 48 states; at the time of construction, Hawaii and Alaska were not yet members of the union. Today, the odd building is maintained by Stenman's granddaughter. Curious visitors are welcome to take tours of the Rockport Paper House.

5. Bart Prince Residence and Studio - New Mexico

Bart Prince, an architect, created this unusual home. The building has curved and flowing walls, organic shapes, and vibrant patterns.

But this house is more than just a pretty face; it is solar-powered and uses the hot Albuquerque sun's energy to power its appliances. The bedrooms are located in the passive solar building's curved portion, while the tower houses the library and storage space.

6. The Smith Mansion - Wyoming

The five stories of this eccentric home's five stories of bumpy slide staircases, balconies, and unfinished rooms are constructed of logs taken from Rattle Snake Mountain. Francis Lee Smith, an engineer with plenty of spare time, worked on the mansion as a hobby.

He didn't have a clear plan or any architectural blueprints when he spent 12 years building this structure. Smith's wife left him because of the excessive amount of time and money he invested in the mansion, and he later died after working on a balcony in strong winds. On a hilltop overlooking the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway, this house is currently vacant.

7. The Mushroom House - Ohio

The architect Terry Brown, who was a professor of architecture and interior design at the University of Cincinnati in the past, was responsible for designing this peculiar house.

Brown employed his students as well as local artisans to assist in the design of the home's intricate architecture. The construction of the house took approximately 12 years.

On state Route 123, the scenery starts to look a little extraterrestrial as you get closer to Carlisle, Ohio. There are what appear to be two flying saucers connected by a tubular walkway among the rural houses and open fields.

The private residence is actually a rare example of a short-lived futuristic design, despite the gray pods giving the impression of a B-movie space invasion. Finnish architect Matti Suuronen started creating blueprints for a personalized ski chalet that was portable, lightweight, and simple to heat in 1965.

9. The Prairie Chicken House - Oklahoma

When Herb Greene unveiled his new house in 1961, it created an international sensation. The house, which was constructed based on the ideas of "organic modernism," was highlighted in publications throughout Asia and Europe.

Numerous cider shingles were used to build the walls, and the house was oriented to withstand high winds and capture sunlight. The family room and kitchen are strategically placed to take in the early morning sun rising over the prairie.

10. The Pavilion - California

This private residence is the guest home to the main house, which is located at the top of the beach's cliff. Black's Beach is the location of this residence. The two properties are connected by a tram that is approximately 300 feet long, as shown in the picture. I would say that the likelihood of this arrangement having been designed with the in-laws in mind is nine out of ten.
