What is Imperial Majesty - the World's Most Expensive Perfume of All Time
Confused about what to get the person who seems to already have everything? A British firm claims to sell the world's most expensive perfume for $215,000 a bottle.
For the holidays, you can purchase a limited edition of the Imperial Majesty version of No. 1, which is housed in a 500 ml (17 fl oz) Baccarat crystal bottle with a 5-carat diamond set in an 18-carat gold collar.
This perfume, created by the British luxury brand Clive Christian, is the most costly in the world.
"The price included delivery in a Bentley," Madalyn Bielfeld, a spokeswoman for Guinness World Records, stated.
The firm claims that they have only made 10 bottles of the Imperial Majesty and that they must be ordered in advance. There is no other scent quite like Clive Christian's Imperial Majesty; it is the pinnacle of perfumery's opulence and uniqueness. For his most discerning clients, Clive Christian decided in 2006 to package 500 milliliters of his No. 1 perfume in the most gorgeous container he and the master glass blowers at the venerable French house of Baccarat could imagine.
Imperial Majesty: How Much Is It?
The fragrance is priced at $2,150 an ounce.
Clive Christian prioritizes excellence over quantity in his scent creation and design processes. Clive Christian, the oldest and most prestigious independent perfume house in the world, has a long history of producing some of the industry's most luxurious fragrances while paying homage to its British roots with every drop and whiff. Yet, Imperial Majesty Perfume is by far the company's finest and most extravagant offering to date.

Imperial Majesty: Why is it Expensive?
Both men and women agree that this fragrance is the best on the market. However, this fragrance is out of reach of a sizable portion of the general population.
Its high cost is justified by the fact that it is crafted from high quality materials. To begin, the main portion of the perfume bottle for Clive Christian Imperial Majesty is made of crystal.
Indeed, these are genuine crystals, and not just any crystals; they are works of art. This exquisite perfume bottle's collar is made of 18-karat solid gold and set with a five-carat diamond. Now you know the reasoning behind the high cost. Additionally, a Range Rover will be used to transport your order when you place an order.
To be honest, that's not as far-fetched as it may sound at first. Many famous people, including singers, actors, and models, are releasing perfumes and other scented products onto the market at an alarming rate. More than five hundred new perfumes were introduced in 2005, from Paris to Britney. People aren't buying as many fragrances as before because of the overwhelming choice, but they're willing to spend more on the fragrances they really enjoy. The NPD Group, a market research firm based in Long Island, reports that annual sales in the U.S. fragrance industry were $2.8 billion in 2004 (the most recent year for which data is available), an increase of just 1% from 2003.
"The fragrance industry as a whole has not been particularly dynamic recently. Its expansion over the past few years has not been meteoric "Paul Austin, CEO of Quest International, a fragrance house that has worked with the likes of Hermès, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Karl Lagerfeld, makes this claim.
"A lot of women now go to a perfume shop and say, 'What's your newest perfume—the one that you haven't shown anyone? No matter the cost, I must have it "according to International Fragrance Association spokesperson Virginie Morel, who works out of both the Brussels, Belgium and Geneva, Switzerland locations of the organization. "Women don't want to smell like their neighbor, but mainstream perfumes have been heavily tested to appeal to the widest possible audience. Do you?"
And, "if you get a niche perfume, you won't smell like anyone else," she says. People are more willing to pay for novelty because of its high demand.

The bottle is made out of highly polished crystal, and it contains a five-carat white diamond set in an 18-karat gold collar. The bottle is so rare that only ten were produced. Seven were purchased by individual collectors, and Clive Christian takes the remaining three on display at museums and galleries around the world. As for the perfume itself, all Clive Christian's fans know that he considers his No 1 to be the best of the best and he calls it "the perfume of his heart". No higher honor can be paid.
"We designed it with the concept that price didn't matter, just put in the very best that you can," explained Clive Christian, the perfume's creator.
A one-ounce bottle of the fragrance retails for $2,350 at Saks Fifth Avenue, but for those whose budgets don't quite stretch that far, a $2,100 fragrance featuring a blend of exotic ingredients like Tahitian vanilla and aged Indian sandalwood is also available. Luxury retailer will also offer a spray with reduced concentration for $865.
"Perfume is the pinnacle of opulence in my book," Christian declared.
It was at Queen Victoria of England's request that the first bottle of this perfume, which resembles a jewel more than a fragrance, was created. Some people used to allegedly wear the bottle of this rare essence on their upper bodies as a fashion statement. A single drop of this perfume requires the essence of 170 roses, making it extremely valuable at €205,000. The actual bottle is out of stock, but the fragrance can still be purchased at Harrods.
