The Tomorrow War: Release Date
The Tomorrow War has a release date of July 2, 2021 on Amazon Prime Video. The movie was initially scheduled for a theatrical release from Paramount Pictures in the Christmas 2020 window, but the studio postponed.
With all the COVID-19 related disruption, the rights for The Tomorrow War were eventually sold to Amazon, which is maintaining the summer launch window and bringing the film to its streaming service.
Chris Pratt Gives Amazon Its $200 Million Summer Tentpole
Amazon reportedly paid $200 million for distribution rights to “The Tomorrow War,” which was developed and produced by Skydance Media. Paramount Pictures was originally set to distribute the movie.
Pratt, Rob Cowan, Bradley J. Fischer and Brian Oliver executive produce, with Jules Daly, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, David S. Goyer, Don Granger and Adam Kolbrenner producing alongside co-producer Samantha Nisenboim.
Director Chris McKay describes the movie as a blend of "action, horror, comedy, and drama," (via CBR) so we may see some of the film's lighter moments in future trailers.
The First Teaser for Chris Pratt’s Time-Traveling
The movie, out July 2, stars Chris Pratt as Dan Forester, a high school teacher who is recruited by a group of time travelers to fight a war in the future. As an alien species threatens life on Earth, the only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to travel to the year 2051 and help save the planet. Dan teams up with his estranged father, played by J.K. Simmons, and a brilliant scientist, played by Yvonne Strahovski, to rewrite the fate of mankind.
Written by Zach Dean and directed by Chris McKay, the film’s cast also includes Edwin Hodge, Sam Richardson, Betty Gilpin, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Jasmine Mathews and Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
Pratt became a worldwide star in the action and sci-fi genres after leading Disney-Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise as Star-Lord/Peter Quill and the “Jurassic World” films as dinosaur trainer Owen Grady.
“The Tomorrow War” marks McKay’s first venture into directing a sci-fi film. He made his feature directorial debut on “The Lego Batman Movie” in 2017 and is set to direct the sequel, due next year.

The Tomorrow War trailer
The first full trailer for The Tomorrow War is here, and it's full of chaos. An explosion on a soccer field heralds the message from the future. And Dan Forester (Chris Pratt) decides he has to enlist (even though he isn't required to) to protect his wife Emmy (Betty Gilpin) from being drafted.
While an early teaser left lingering questions, the new trailer sets up Pratt as a family man conscripted against his will into fighting an unimaginable war. Leaving his wife (Betty Gilpin) and daughter at home, Pratt is sent into the future to fight under Strahovski’s command alongside wise-cracking sidekick Sam Richards (“Veep”).
Pratt serves as executive producer alongside Rob Cowan, Brian Oliver, and Bradley J. Fischer. “The Tomorrow War” was produced by Skydance’s David Ellison, “Annihilation” producers Dana Goldberg and Don Granger, Jules Daly, “The Dark Knight” and “Batman Begins” scribe David Goyer, and Adam Kolbrenner (“Prisoners”).
‘Tomorrow War’ Trailer Sends Chris Pratt to the Future. Check out the action-packed first official trailer below:
Chris Pratt stars in The Tomorrow War as Dan Forester, a high school teacher who is recruited by time travelers who first appear in the middle of a soccer match to inform the world that they need recruits for a war 30 years in the future. Apparently, humanity will be wiped out by an alien invader unless people from the present-day travel to the future to fight in the war. As it turns out, Pratt’s teacher has military experience that makes him a good recruit, which is a good thing as 70 percent of soldiers who travel to the future never return.
The Tomorrow War Cast
Chris Pratt plays "high school teacher and family man Dan Forester" who joins the fight to save the planet for his daughter, according to the teaser trailer's YouTube description. The awesome J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man) takes on the mantle of Dan Forester's estranged father who is also somehow conscripted or involved in the whole drafting process. According to his IMDB page, his character's name is Slade, but that's not been officially confirmed.
The pair are joined by Yvonne Strahovski, who those of you playing the Mass Effect Legendary Edition may recognise as Miranda Lawson. For the non-gamers amongst you, Strahovski more recently starred in The Handmaid's Tale, and portrays "brilliant scientist" Vicki Winslowin The Tomorrow War, although we don't know if she's a time-traveling scientist, or one from the present just yet.

Alongside those actors are a list of other confirmed names, although we don't yet have details on the characters they'll play. It's safe to say they'll be soldiers, civilians, or scientists, and that Ryan Kiera Armstrong will likely play Pratt's daughter, but we'll add more information as we get it. Some of the character names are cropping up on IMDB pages, so we've speculatively put those in for now.

Here’s the official synopsis
“In ‘The Tomorrow War,’ the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.”
Clocking in at under 30 seconds long, there's not a lot to look at but we do get a peek of what I'm assuming is the ravaged remains of a city in 2051, and a lot of shots of Chris Pratt holding a gun.
